The New York Yankees were defeated
by the Boston Red Sox on Friday night.
The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the
final score was 4-1. Sonny Gray started
for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch that well.
The Yankees offense was non-existent after the second batter of the
game.
Gray pitched seven innings giving
up five hits and four runs with a walk and nine strikeouts. Gray took his ninth loss of the season. Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning giving up a
hit and he struck out the side and Adam Warren pitched an inning giving up a
hit and he struck out one.
Doug Fister won his fourth game of
the season pitching seven innings and giving up four hits and a run with a walk
and five strikeouts. Addison Reed
pitched a perfect inning and Craig Kimbrel pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout
and he earned his 32nd save of the season.
Brett Gardner had a hit, Aaron
Judge had a hit and an RBI and Greg Bird drew a walk. Chase Headley had a hit, Jacoby Ellsbury had
a hit and Gardner and Judge each hit a double.
The Yankees were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men
on base.
Eduardo Nunez had a hit and two
RBI, Andrew Benintendi had two hits and an RBI and Mookie Betts had a hit. Dustin Pedroia had a hit, Rafael Devers had a
hit and Hanley Ramirez had a hit and an RBI.
Brock Holt drew a walk, Nunez, Benintendi and Ramirez each hit a homerun
and the Red Sox were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and left five men on
base. Betts had a stolen base.
In the first Judge hit an RBI
double to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.
In the third Nunez hit a two-run homerun giving the Red Sox a 2-1
lead. In the fifth Benintendi hit a solo
homerun to push the lead to 3-1 and in the seventh Ramirez hit a solo homerun
to extend the lead to 4-1 and that was the final score.
The two teams will play game three of four on
Saturday afternoon.
