The New York Mets were defeated by
the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday afternoon.
The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
and the final score was 4-2. Jacob
deGrom started but only pitched an inning, Robert Gsellman pitched well and
Paul Sewald did not. Brandon Nimmo,
Asdrubal Cabrera and Yoenis Cespedes each had two hits.
deGrom pitched an inning with three
walks and two strikeouts. Gsellman
pitched three innings giving up three hits and he walked two and struck out
two, Sewald took his third loss of the season pitching two innings and giving
up three hits and three runs with a walk and a strikeout and AJ Ramos pitched
an inning with a strikeout. Jeurys
Familia pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a
strikeout.
Aaron Nola pitched six innings
giving up nine hits and a run with two walks and four strikeouts. Nola won his sixth game of the season. Tommy Hunter pitched 2/3 of an inning giving
up two hits and a run with a strikeout, Luis Garcia pitched to one batter and
retired him and Seranthony Dominguez pitched a perfect inning with two
strikeouts. Edubray Ramos pitched an
inning with a walk and a strikeout and saved his first game of the season.
Nimmo had two hits and drew two
walks, Cabrera had two hits and an RBI and Cespedes had two hits and an
RBI. Adrian Gonzalez had a hit and drew
a walk, Wilmer Flores had a hit and Michael Conforto had a hit. Luis Guillorme had a hit, Amed Rosario had a
hit and Cabrera hit a double and Cespedes hit a homerun. The Mets were 0-7 with runners in scoring
position and left nine men on base.
Mesoraco had a passed ball and Rosario was caught stealing.
Cesar Hernandez drew two walks,
Aaron Altherr drew a walk and Odubel Herrera had a hit and drew a walk. Rhys Hoskins had a hit, Carlos Santana had
two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Maikel Franco drew a walk. Scott Kingery drew a walk, Jorge Alfaro had
three hits and Nick Williams had a hit and three RBI. Hoskins and Santana each hit a double and
Williams and Santana each hit a homerun.
The Phillies were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine
men on base.
In the sixth Cespedes hit a solo
homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. In
the bottom of the sixth Williams hit a three-run homerun to give the Phillies a
3-1 lead. In the seventh Cabrera hit an
RBI double to cut the lead to 3-2.
Santana hit a solo homerun in the eighth to extend the lead to 4-2 and that
would be the final score.
The two teams were rained out on
Saturday and split the two-game series. The
Mets will be off on Monday and begin a two-game series with the Toronto Blue
Jays at home on Tuesday night.
