The New York Yankees defeated the Oakland
Athletics on Sunday afternoon. The game
took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was
6-2. Luis Severino started for the
Yankees and he pitched well. Giancarlo Stanton
led the offense with four hits.
Severino pitched six innings giving
up five hits and a run. He walked two
and struck out seven and earned his sixth win of the season. Chad Green pitched a perfect inning with a
strikeout, Dellin Betances pitched an inning with a walk and two strikeouts and
Chasen Shreve pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run and he struck
out two.
Brett Anderson lost his second game
of the season. He pitched five innings
giving up eight hits and four runs with two walks and four strikeouts. Santiago Casilla pitched two innings giving
up two hits and a run with two walks and two strikeouts and Wilmer Font pitched
an inning giving up two hits and a run.
Brett Gardner had two hits, Aaron
Judge had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Didi Gregorius drew a walk. Stanton had four hits and three RBI, Gary Sanchez
drew two walks and Aaron Hicks had a hit and two RBI. Miguel Andujar had two hits, Ronald Torreyes
had a hit and Judge, Torreyes and Stanton each hit a double. Stanton hit a homerun and the Yankees were
3-11 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. Andujar and Hicks each had a stolen base and
Judge committed an error.
Marcus Semien had two hits, Matt
Joyce drew a walk and Jed Lowrie had two hits and an RBI. Khris Davis drew a walk, Matt Chapman had a
hit and Mark Canha had a hit and an RBI.
Jonathan Lucroy had two hits, Dustin Fowler drew a walk and Canha hit a
homerun. The Athletics were 1-5 with
runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.
In the first Stanton hit a two-run
single and Hicks hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 3-0 lead. In the fifth Lowrie hit an RBI single to cut
the lead to 3-1. In the bottom of the
fifth Stanton hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 4-1. In the seventh Hicks hit into a force out and
a run scored to make it 5-1. In the
eighth Judge hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 6-1 and in the ninth Canha
hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 6-2 which would be the final score
The Yankees won two out of three in the series
and finished the homestand at 7-2. They
will be off on Monday and then head to Washington for a two-game series
beginning on Tuesday nigh
