New York Yankees shutout the Washington Nationals


The New York Yankees defeated the Washington Nationals on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-0.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he pitched great, the bullpen also was great.  Didi Gregorius led the offense with two hits which were both homeruns. 

Sabathia pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up four hits and no runs.  He walked three and struck out three and earned his fourth win of the season.  Chad Green pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out two, Dellin Betances pitched an inning with two strikeouts and Aroldis Chapman earned his 18th save of the season pitching a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Tanner Roark pitched six innings giving up six hits and three runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  He lost his seventh game of the season.  Matt Grace pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one and Wander Suero pitched a perfect inning. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Aaron Judge had a hit and drew a walk and Gregorius had two hits and two RBI.  Aaron Hicks had a hit and drew a walk, Neil Walker had a hit and Austin Romine had a hit and an RBI.  Gleyber Torres had a hit, Gregorius hit two homeruns and the Yankees were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

Adam Eaton had a hit, Trea Turner had a hit and Bryce Harper drew two walks.  Michael Taylor had a hit and drew a walk, Pedro Severino had a hit and Wilmer Difo had a hit.  The Nationals were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Taylor was caught stealing. 

In the second Gregorius hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  Romine hit a sac fly to push the lead to 2-0.  In the sixth Gregorius hit another solo homerun to extend the lead to 3-0 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of two on Wednesday night.
