The New York Mets defeated the New
York Yankees on Sunday night. The game
took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was
2-0. Luis Severino started for the
Yankees and pitched well but not for long as he had a rough first inning. Seth Lugo started for the Mets and pitched
great, the bullpen on both sides pitched well.
Todd Frazier was the offensive star for the Mets with a couple of hits
including a two-run homerun.
Severino pitched five innings
giving up five hits and two runs with two walks and seven strikeouts. Severino lost his second game of the
season. Chasen Shreve pitched an inning
with a walk and two strikeouts, Adam Warren pitched a perfect inning and
Jonathan Holder pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.
Lugo won his second game of the
season pitching six innings and giving up two hits and no runs with no walks
and eight strikeouts. Robert Gsellman
pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out two and Anthony Swarzak
pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout and earned his first save of the
season.
Greg Bird had a hit and drew a
walk, Miguel Andujar had two hits and the Yankees were 0-2 with runners in
scoring position and left four men on base.
Jose Reyes had a hit, Frazier had
two hits and two RBI and Brandon Nimmo had a hit and drew a walk. Jay Bruce drew a walk, Devin Mesoraco had a
hit and drew a walk and Frazier hit a homerun.
The Mets were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left six men on
base. Frazier had a stolen base, Reyes
committed two errors.
In the fifth inning Frazier hit a
two-run homerun to give the Mets a 2-0 lead and that was all the scoring in the
game. The Yankees won two out of three
in the series and will head home to face the Washington Nationals for two games
beginning on Tuesday night. The Mets
will head to Atlanta to face the Braves beginning also on Tuesday night.
