New York Yankees can't win their first home series as they lose to the Chicago White Sox


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Chicago White Sox on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-2.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch well.  The Yankees bullpen pitched well and the offense only managed four hits. 

Tanaka pitched four innings giving up seven hits and five runs with three walks and six strikeouts.  He took his first loss of the season.  Luis Cessa pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out one, Tommy Khanle pitched to two batters and got them both out, one on a strikeout.  Adam Ottavino pitched an inning with two walks and two strikeouts, Joe Harvey pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two and Chad Green pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two. 

Carlos Rodon pitched six innings giving up three hits and two runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  Rodon won his second game of the season.  Jace Fry pitched to one batter and struck him out, Nate Jones pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Kelvin Herrera pitched an inning with a strikeout.  Alex Colome pitched an inning to earn his third save of the season. 

Aaron Judge had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Gleyber Torres had a hit and Luke Voit had a hit and an RBI.  Gio Urshela had a hit, Mike Tauchman drew a walk and Voit hit a double.  The Yankees were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Judge had an outfield assist. 

Leury Garcia had a hit, Yoan Moncada had three hits and drew a walk and Jose Abreu had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Yonder Alonso drew two walks, Eloy Jimenez drew two walks and Tim Anderson had a hit and four RBI.  James McCann had a hit, Yolmer Sanchez had two hits and Moncada, Sanchez and Abreu each hit a double.  Anderson hit a homerun and the White Sox were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Moncada, Garcia and McCann each had a stolen base and Abreu had two stolen bases.  Sanchez and Moncada were each caught stealing.  Anderson committed an error. 

In the first Voit hit an RBI double giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the third Judge hit an RBI single to push the lead to 2-0.  In the fourth Anderson hit a grand-slam for the White Sox giving them a 4-2 lead.  In the fifth Abreu hit a sac fly to extend their lead to 5-2 and that would be the final score of the game. 

The Yankees lost two out of three and for the first time since the early 80s lost their first three series at home. 

The Yankees will be off on Monday and then begin a brief two-game series with the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night.
