The New
York Yankees defeated the Kansas City Royals on Saturday afternoon. The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the
Bronx, New York and the final score was 9-2.
Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and pitched very well. Clint Frazier led the offense with three
hits.
Tanaka
pitched seven innings giving up four hits and a run with three walks and seven
strikeouts. He won his second game of
the season. Jonathan Holder pitched two
innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout.
Heath
Fillmyer pitched four innings giving up seven hits and six runs with two walks
and three strikeouts. Fillmyer lost his
first game of the season. Glenn Sparkman
pitched three innings giving up six hits and three runs with two walks and two
strikeouts and Jake Newberry pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck
out two.
DJ
LeMahieu had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Aaron Judge had two hits and an RBI
and Luke Voit had a hit. Gleyber Torres
had a hit and an RBI, Frazier had three hits and two RBI and Mike Ford drew two
walks. Gio Urshela had three hits,
Austin Romine had two hits and an RBI and Mike Tauchman had a hit, three RBI
and drew a walk. Romine, Frazier and
Urshela each hit a double and LeMahieu, Tauchman and Frazier each hit a
homerun. The Yankees were 4-11 with
runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.
Whit
Merrifield had a hit and an RBI, Adalberto Mondesi drew a walk and Hunter
Dozier had a hit and drew two walks.
Chris Owings had a hit and an RBI,Jorge Soler drew a walk and Lucas Duda
had two hits. Billy Hamilton had a hit,
Dozier hit a double and Hamilton hit a triple.
Owings, Merrifield each hit a homerun.
The Royals were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on
base.
In the
first Judge hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead. In the second Frazier hit a solo homerun to
push the Yankees lead to 2-0. In the
fourth Tauchman hit a three-run homerun to make it a 5-0 game. LeMahieu hit a homerun making it a 6-0
game. In the sixth Merrifield hit a solo
homerun to cut the lead to 6-1. In the
bottom of the sixth Torres and Frazier each hit an RBI single to extend the
Yankees lead to 8-1. In the seventh
Romine hit an RBI single and it was 9-1 Yankees. In the ninth Owings hit a solo homerun to cut
the lead to 9-2 and that would be the final score.
The
teams will play the fourth and final game on Sunday afternoon. The Yankees have won two out of three so far
and four of their last five games.
