The New
York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday night. The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the
Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-3.
J.A. Happ started for the Yankees and he pitched well, the bullpen
pitched well and Clint Frazier led the offense with three hits.
Happ
pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up six hits and three runs with a walk and four
strikeouts. Tommy Khanle picked up his
first victory of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning and striking out one,
Adam Ottavino pitched an inning giving up two hits and a walk with a strikeout
and Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning with a strikeout and picked up his third
save of the season.
Nathan
Eovaldi pitched six innings giving up three hits and a run which was
unearned. He walked one and struck out
six. Brandon Workman picked up his first
loss of the season pitching 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and three runs
with two walks and a strikeout, Ryan Brasier pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up
a hit and a run with two strikeouts and Heath Hembree pitched a perfect inning with
a strike out.
Brett
Gardner had a hit and four RBI, Luke Voit had a hit and drew a walk and Frazier
had three hits and an RBI. Mike Tauchman
drew a walk, Austin Romine drew a walk and Frazier and Voit each hit a
double. Gardner hit a homerun and the
Yankees were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left four men on
base.
Xander
Bogaerts had a hit, J.D. Martinez had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and
Steve Pearce had a hit. Mitch Moreland
had a hit and drew a walk, Rafael Devers had two hits and Christian Vasquez had
a hit and two RBI. Martinez and Vasquez
each hit a homerun and the Red Sox were 0-3 with runners in scoring position
and left six men on base. Devers had a
stolen base and Nunez committed an error.
In the
first Martinez hit a solo homerun to give the Red Sox a 1-0 lead. In the second Vazquez hit a two-run homerun to
push the Red Sox lead to 3-0. In the
fourth Frazier hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 3-1. In the seventh Gardner hit a grand-slam to
give the Yankees a 5-3 lead and that would be the final score of the game.
The Yankees
swept the brief two-game series and will remain at home to take on the Kansas
City Royals in the start of a four-game series beginning on Thursday
night.
