The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada and the final score was 8-2.  J.A. Happ started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch very well.  DJ LeMahieu and Mike Tauchman each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Happ pitched five innings giving up four hits and six runs with three walks and four strikeouts.  Happ took his seventh loss of the season.  Nestor Cortes Jr. pitched two innings giving up a walk and he struck out two and Tommy Khanle pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout. 

Sean Reid-Foley pitched five innings giving up five hits and a run with two walks and five strikeouts.  Reid-Foley won his second game of the season.  Tim Mayza pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts, Justin Shafer pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Buddy Boshers pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout.  Derek Law pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

LeMahieu had two hits, Brett Gardner had a hit and Gio Urshela drew a walk.  Didi Gregorius had a hit, Tauchman had two hits and an RBI and Mike Ford had a hit and an RBI.  Brayvic Valera drew a walk, Gardner hit a double and LeMahieu hit a double.  Tauchman and Ford each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

Bo Bichette drew a walk, Cavan Biggio drew a walk and Vlad Guerrero Jr. drew a walk.  Randal Grichuk had a hit and two RBI, Freddy Galvis had a hit and Teoscar Hernandez had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk.  Brandon Drury had a hit, Derek Fisher drew a walk and Danny Jansen had a hit and three RBI.  Drury and Galvis each hit a double and Grichuk and Jansen each hit a homerun.  Hernandez hit two homeruns and the Blue Jays were 2-3 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base. 

In the first Grichuk hit a two-run homerun to give the Blue Jays a 2-0 lead.  In the second Hernandez hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 3-0.  In the fourth Tauchman hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 3-1.  In the bottom of the fourth Jansen hit a three-run homerun to extend the lead to 6-1.  In the seventh Ford hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 6-2.  In the eighth Hernandez hit a two-run homerun to make it an 8-2 game and that would be the final score.
