The New York Mets defeated the
Chicago Cubs on Monday. The game took
place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 5-2. David Peterson started for the Mets and
pitched very well. Dom Smith had two
hits to lead the offense.
Peterson pitched six innings giving
up a hit and no runs with two walks and three strikeouts. He earned his second win of the season. Trevor May pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up
two hits and two runs with a strikeout, Aaron Loup pitched 1 1/3 innings with
two strikeouts and Edwin Diaz saved his 13th game of the season
pitching a perfect inning. He struck out
the side.
Jake Arrieta lost his seventh game
of the season. He started for the Cubs
and pitched five innings giving up four hits and four runs with four walks and
three strikeouts. Tommy Nance pitched
2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks and a strikeout, Rex
Brothers pitched an inning with two walks and a strikeout and Trevor Megill
pitched to one batter and got him out.
Dillon Maples pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.
Jonathan Villar drew a walk,
Francisco Lindor drew a walk and Smith had two hits, an RBI and drew a
walk. Pete Alonso drew a walk, Billy
McKinney drew a walk and James McCann had a hit and an RBI. Kevin Pillar had a hit, two RBI and drew a
walk, Luis Guillorme drew two walks and Brandon Drury had a hit and an
RBI. Pillar hit a double, Smith hit a
homerun and the Mets were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men
on base. Lindor had a stolen base and Alonso
was picked off. Peterson had a
pickoff.
Anthony Rizzo had a hit and an RBI,
Patrick Wisdom had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Sergio Alcantara drew a
walk. Eric Sogard had a hit, Rizzo and
Wisdom each hit a homerun and the Cubs left one man on base. Sogard was picked off, Marisnick committed an
error and Contreras had a pickoff.
In the fourth McCann hit an RBI
single, Pillar hit a two-run double and it was 3-0 Mets. In the bottom of the fifth Smith hit a solo
homerun extending the lead to 4-0. In
the bottom of the sixth Drury hit an RBI single and the lead was 5-0. In the seventh Rizzo hit a solo homerun and
Wisdom hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 5-2 and that would be the final
score.
