The New York Mets defeated the
Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night. The game
took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was
3-2. Taijuan Walker started for the Mets
and he pitched very well. Jonathan
Villar had two hits to lead the offense.
Walker pitched seven innings giving
up five hits and two runs with 12 strikeouts.
He won his sixth game of the season.
Seth Lugo earned his first save of the season pitching two innings and
giving up two hits and a walk with three strikeouts.
Alec Mills started for the Cubs and
he pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs with two walks and
six strikeouts. He lost his first game
of the season. Rex Brothers pitched 2/3
of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout, Keegan Thompson
pitched two innings giving up a hit and two walks and he struck out three and
Dan Winkler pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout.
Villar had two hits and drew a
walk, Francisco Lindor had a hit and drew two walks and Dom Smith had a hit and
drew a walk. Pete Alonso had a hit and
three RBI, Billy McKinney had a hit and James McCann had a hit and drew a
walk. Luis Guillorme had a hit and drew
a walk, Smith and Villar each hit a double and the Mets were 1-7 with runners
in scoring position and left ten men on base.
Pillar had an outfield assist.
Joc Pederson had a hit, Patrick
Wisdom had a hit and Javier Baez had a hit and two RBI. Wilson Contreras had two hits, Ian Happ had a
hit and Eric Sogard had a hit. Jason
Heyward drew a walk, Baez hit a homerun and the Cubs were 1-5 with runners in
scoring position and left six men on base.
Alcantara committed an error.
In the third Baez hit a two-run
homerun to give the Cubs a 2-0 lead. In
the bottom of the third Alonso hit a two-run single to tie the game at
two. In the bottom of the fifth Alonso
hit a sac fly giving the Mets a 3-2 lead and that would be the final
score. The two teams will play their
third and final game of the series on Wednesday night.
