New York Yankees defeat the Blue Jays for second straight victory

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Sahlen Field in Buffalo, New York and the final score was 3-2.  Gerrit Cole started for the Yankees and pitched well and Gary Sanchez had a pinch hit two-run homerun to lead the offense. 

Cole pitched eight innings giving up four hits and two runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  He won his eighth game of the season.  Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one and earned his 14th save of the season. 

Ross Stripling started for the Blue Jays and he pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up three hits and three runs with two being earned.  He walked two and struck out nine and lost his fourth game of the season.  Rafael Dolis pitched to one batter walking him and then left with an injury.  Trent Thornton pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up ah it and he struck out two and Patrick Murphy pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

DJ LeMahieu drew a walk, Aaron Judge had a hit and Gleyber Torres drew a walk.  Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and an RBI, Miguel Andujar had a hit and Sanchez had a hit and two RBI.  Brett Gardner drew a walk, Sanchez hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Torres committed an error. 

Marcus Semien had a hit and an RBI, Bo Bichette had a hit and Vlad Guerrero Jr. had a hit.  Teoscar Hernandez had two hits, Cavan Biggio had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Hernandez hit a double.  Semien and Biggio each hit a homerun.  The Blue Jays were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Panik committed two errors. 

In the first Stanton hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Semien hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the bottom of the fifth Biggio hit a solo homerun giving the Jays a 2-1 lead.  In the seventh Sanchez hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees will look for the three-game sweep on Thursday night.
