The New York Yankees were defeated
by the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night.
The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the
final score was 6-5. Gerrit Cole started
for the Yankees and he pitched well.
Jonathan Loaisiga out of the pen pitched poorly. The Yankees had four players who had two hits
but it wasn’t enough.
Cole pitched seven innings giving
up three hits and two runs with three walks and six strikeouts. Loaisiga lost his third game of the season
pitching 2/3 of an inning and giving up five hits and four runs with two
strikeouts and Lucas Luetge pitched 1 1/3 innings with a strikeout.
Brady Singer started for the Royals
and he pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up five hits and two runs with five walks
and five strikeouts. Kris Bubic pitched
2 1/3 innings with two strikeouts, Jake Brentz pitched an inning giving up a
hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout and he earned his second win of the
season. Kyle Zimmer pitched 1/3 of an
inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk, Scott Barlow pitched 2/3 of an
inning giving up a hit and Greg Holland pitched an inning giving up a hit and a
walk with two strikeouts. Holland saved
his fifth game of the season.
DJ LeMahieu had two hits, two RBI
and drew a walk, Aaron Judge had two hits and drew a walk and Luke Voit had two
hits, an RBI and drew a walk. Giancarlo
Stanton drew two walks, Gio Urshela had two hits and Gleyber Torres drew a
walk. Kyle Higashioka had a hit and an
RBI, Gary Sanchez drew a walk and Brett Gardner drew a walk. Judge hit a double and Voit hit a triple and
a homerun. The Yankees were 0-10 with
runners in scoring position and left 13 men on base.
Whit Merrifield had a hit and an
RBI, Carlos Santana had a hit and drew a walk and Ryan O’Hearn had two hits and
two RBI. Jorge Soler drew a walk, Jarrod
Dyson had an RBI and Hunter Dozier had a hit and an RBI. Michael Taylor had two hits, an RBI and drew
a walk and Nick Lopez had a hit. Santana
hit a double and O’Hearn hti a homerun.
The Royals were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left six men
on base.
In the first Voit hit a solo
homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.
In the second Higashioka hit a solo homerun pushing the lead to
2-0. In the third Merrifield hit an RBI
ground out cutting the lead to 2-1. In
the fourth O’Hearn hit a solo homerun to tie the game at two. In the bottom of the seventh a wild pitch
made it 3-2 Yankees. In the eighth O’Hearn
hit an RBI single to tie the game at three.
Dyson reached on a fielder’s choice and the Royals had a 4-3 lead. Dozier hit an RBI single and the lead was
pushed to 5-3 and Taylor hit an RBI single to make it a 6-3 game. In the bottom of the eighth LeMahieu hit a
two-run homerun cutting the lead to 6-5 and that would be the final score.
The two teams will play game two of
three on Wednesday night.
