The New York Mets defeated the
Atlanta Braves in game one of a doubleheader on Monday afternoon. The game took place at Citi Field in
Flushing, New York and the final score was 4-2.
Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and he pitched well. The Mets offense only managed five hits but
Dom Smith had three RBI to lead the way.
deGrom pitched five innings giving
up a hit and no runs with two walks and six strikeouts. deGrom won his seventh game of the
season. Seth Lugo pitched an inning
giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and a strikeout and Edwin Diaz saved
his 15th game of the season pitching a perfect inning with a
strikeout.
Kyle Muller started for the Braves
and he pitched four innings giving up a hit and a run with two walks and three
strikeouts. Muller took the loss which
was the first of the season for him.
Shane Greene pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and three runs,
Sean Newcomb pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and
Ty Tice pitched an inning giving up a hit and he walked one.
Jonathan Villar had a hit and drew
a walk, Smith had a hit and three RBI and Kevin Pillar had a hit. Jose Peraza had a hit, Tomas Nido drew a walk
and Billy McKinney drew a walk. Jeff
McNeil had a hit, Peraza and Smith each hit a double and the Mets were 2-8 with
runners in scoring position and left five men on base.
Freddie Freeman drew a walk, Ozzie
Albies had a hit and two RBI and Guillermo Heredia drew a walk. Kevan Smith had a hit, Muller drew a walk and
Smith hit a double. Albies hit a homerun
and the Braves were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and left three men on
base.
In the first a wild pitch gave the
Mets a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the
fifth Smith hit a three-run double to push the lead to 4-0. In the sixth Albies hit a two-run homerun
cutting the lead to 4-2. 4-2 would be
the final score in seven innings as it was game one of a doubleheader.
