The New York Yankees defeated the
Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon.
The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the
final score was 5-0. Masahiro Tanaka
started for the Yankees and pitched great, the offense was led by Alex
Rodriguez and Dustin Ackley who each had two hits.
Tanaka pitched seven innings giving
up four hits and no runs with no walks and seven strikeouts. He won his 12th game of the season, Dellin
Betances pitched a perfect inning striking out the side, James Pazos pitched to
one batter and retired him and Caleb Cotham pitched to two batters and retired
them both.
R.A. Dickey pitched 7 2/3 innings
giving up seven hits and five runs with two walks and two strikeouts. He lost his 11th game of the season and Ryan
Tepera pitched to one batter and struck him out.
Carlos Beltran had a hit, Brian
McCann drew a walk and Rodriguez had two hits and an RBI. Chase Headley had a hit and drew a walk,
Ackley had two hits and three RBI and Didi Gregorius had a hit and an RBI. Gregorius and Rodriguez each hit a
double. Ackley hit a homerun and the
Yankees were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on
base. Tanaka had a pickoff.
Jose Bautista had a hit, Chris
Colabello had a hit and Kevin Pillar had a hit.
Josh Thole had a hit, Bautista, Pillar and Colabello each hit a
double. The Blue Jays were 0-3 with
runners in scoring position and left three men on base.
In the second Ackley hit a sac fly
to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead and Gregorius hit a sac fly to make it 2-0. In the fourth Ackley hit a two run homerun
and it was 4-0 Yankees. In the eighth
Rodriguez hit an RBI double to make it 5-0 and that would be the final
score. The Yankees were able to salvage
the final game and avoid a four game sweep.
They will head to Tampa Bay to take on the Rays in a three game series
beginning on Monday night.
