Wow what a win for Yanks
The New York Yankees won their most dramatic game of the season by the score of 4-3 in 11 innings. Mark Teixeira hit the walkoff homerun but A-rod had his heroics in the ninth off of closer Joe Nathan. A-rod hit a game tying 2 run homerun with 1 out in the ninth. Dave Robertson was another hero of this game as he got out of a bases loaded no out jam in the 11th. A.J. Burnett pitched well tonight although he did walk 5 and hit 2 batters. The bottom line is he gave them 6 innings only allowing a run. The bullpen wasn't so great as Phil Hughes gave up a couple of runs and even Mariano Rivera gave up a hit that scored a run which was charged to Phil Hughes. Damaso Marte gave up 2 singles to the only 2 guys he faced which were both lefties. The Yankees offensively couldn't do anything against Nick Blackburn who pitched one heck of a game. The Yankees now head off to Minnesota to face Carl Pavano the American Idle and try to sweep the series and head to the ALCS. I was at this game tonight and that is why I am not writing a lot as I am exhausted. I do have to say the stadium was amazing tonight, it was so loud and sounded like the old stadium, when A-rod hit the homerun it was amazing and then just the twists and turns and Tex hitting the walkoff set the place into a frenzy. The fans were great and it really was a great game to be at. I hope to have pictures tomorrow or maybe sunday depending on when I can download them.
Dave Robertson by the way got the championship belt tonight.

Yanks walkoff with another win
The New York Yankees defeated the Kansas City Royals tonight by the score of 4-3. They continued their magical season with their 15th walkoff win and 50th come from behind victory of the year. A.J. Burnett got the start and looked great pitching 6 1/3 innings allowing 2 runs, 1 earned on 3 hits with 3 walks and 8 strikeouts. Phil Coke came in to pitch and pitched a inning and 2/3 he gave up a couple of runs but basically because of his fielding as he took his time on a bunt and let Gordon beat it out then threw a ball hit back to him into center field and then on another comebacker to him didn't throw home when the runner was clearly dead in the water. Dave Robertson pitched 2/3 of an inning not allowing a hit or run. Brian Bruney finished it off with 1 1/3 scoreless innings as he trys to work himself onto the postseason roster.
Juan Miranda had the walkoff hit which is great to see out of another young guy. Francisco Cervelli had a hit, A-rod had a hit and a walk. Derek Jeter had a hit and a walk, Mark Teixeira had a solo homerun giving him 39 homeruns and 121 rbi's. Nick Swisher had a solo homerun and Jose Molina had a hit. The ninth inning started with a single by Francisco Cervelli, Eric Hinske had a pinch hit single putting Cervelli on third. Robinson Cano got ahead 3-0 and got the green light and promptly crushed a ball to deep center, it was caught but was a sac fly. Eric Hinske then stole second and went to third when the ball was thrown into center. Johnny Damon was walked intentionally and Juan Miranda hit a single off of Kyle Farnsworths leg. The Yankees will go for the sweep in the final regular season home game of the year. Joba Chamberlain will try and end his season on a good note and continue the success he had from his last start against Boston.

Yanks lose on a walkoffri
The Yankees were stunned last night by the Seattle Mariners. The Mariners won the game 3-2 and the reason the Yankees were stunned was that with 2 outs and no one on in the bottom of the ninth Mike Sweeney doubled off of Mariano Rivera and Ichiro Suzuki laced a 2 run walkoff homerun into the seats. Mariano Rivera had saved 36 straight before that so seeing MO blow a save is as rare as they come. A.J. Burnett pitched a great game going 7 innings giving up 7 hits and 1 run with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. That is great news for the Yankees as they need to get him going before the playoffs begin. Phil Hughes pitched a perfect 8th with a strikeout. Mariano did pick up his 1,000th strikeout of his career before blowing the save.
The offense was silent for most of the night against Cy Young contender Felix Hernandez. They did start out the game with 2nd and 3rd no outs though but only managed to score 1 run which probably was the turning point of the game. Johnny Damon had 3 hits and Arod had a hit and sac fly. Derek Jeter led off the game with a single but that was all he managed. Johnny Damon was the only Yankee who had a multi hit game. The Yankees will try to even the series with CC Sabathia on the mound tonight.

Yankees walkoff with another win
The New York Yankees for the 14th time this season had a walkoff win and got to taste some pie. This time the hero was rookie catcher Francisco Cervelli, what a good feeling for him as he filled in so admirably earlier in the year when Jorge Posada and Jose Molina were injured. Chad Gaudin got the start and was good as he pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up 7 hits and 3 runs. He struck out 2 and had 1 walk. The Yankees are 4-0 when he starts even though he is only 1-0. Damaso Marte came on in the 6th in relief of Gaudin and got a strikeout. Brian Bruney gave up 2 hits and a run without recording an out as he continues to struggle. Phil Coke pitched a perfect inning and so did Phil Hughes with a strikeout. Mariano gave up a leadoff bunt single in the 9th but that was it.
The offense was awake early by scoring 2 runs in the first inning on a Mark Teixeira double and Hideki Matsui single but after Tallett got taken out of the game in the 3rd inning they couldn't muster much offense until the 8th inning when Hideki Matsui hit a game tying 2 run homerun. Brett Gardner led off the ninth with a basehit and once again showed how valuable he can be in the postseason by stealing 2nd and getting to third on a Derek Jeter groundout. He scored the winning run on a Francisco Cervelli single and it was a great scene as Cervelli touched first and headed towards the outfield with all of his teammates chasing him. Francisco Cervelli has really shown the Yankees a lot this season and I don't see how he won't be the backup catcher next season. The Yankees now have a off day tomorrow and will head out to the west coast to start a 3 game series with Seattle on Friday. A.J. Burnett will try to get it together as he goes up against Felix Hernandez.

Yanks love pie
The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays tonight by the score of 3-2. Nick Swisher hit a walkoff homerun in the bottom of the ninth to give the Yankees the victory. Chad Gaudin got the start and pitched really well going 6 strong and then tiring in the seventh. He gave up 1 run on 6 hits with 6 strikeouts. Phil Hughes who has been lights out gave up a solo homerun in the eighth but then Mo had a 1-2-3 ninth to set up the heroics. The Yankees were pretty much shutdown by David Price who was really good tonight showing the promise that he has. Nick Swisher hit a monster homerun to left field and A-rod had a rbi single. Derek Jeter went hitless once again disappointing many people and going through his longest hitless stretch of the season. He is now 0 for his last 13 and did not make himself available to the media after the game. That is very unusual for him so I wonder if it is getting to him a little bit. The Yankees magic number is now 15 and they are 40 games over 500.
David Price became the first pitcher to strike out Jeter 3 times in a game since Curt Shilling did it on April 19, 2004.
Nick Swisher's 2 homeruns were the 3rd time this season he has done it from both sides of the plate.
Johnny Damon reached 100 runs scored for the 10th time in his career.
Dave Robertson will meet with Dr. James Andrews on Thursday in Florida, that is never a good thing. This kid was really coming on this year so lets hope it is nothing too serious.
Chad Gaudin has allowed 4 runs in 14 innings as a starter for the Yanks and they are 3-0 in those games.
Joba Chamberlain will be on the mound tomorrow against Jeff Niemann. The Yankees will go for the 4 game sweep.

Yanks walkoff with win and Cano gets pie
The New York Yankees defeated the Chicago White Sox tonight by the score of 5-2 in 10 innings. The question of the night once again for the Yankees was who wants pie and Robinson Cano wanted it, he hit a 3 run walkoff homerun for the win. CC Sabathia got the start and was dominant and then hit a rough patch in the 7th innings. He gave up 2 runs on 8 hits in 7 innings. He also had 10 strikeouts. Phil Hughes pitched the 8th and struck out the heart of the order. Mariano Rivera pitched the ninth inning 1-2-3 and Brian Bruney pitched the 10th inning 1-2-3.
The offense once again wasn't getting the clutch hits. Johnny Damon and Melky Cabrera each had 2 hits, Johnny Damon had a solo homerun. Derek Jeter had a hit, A-rod had a hit and a walk. Hideki Matsui had a hit and a walk and Jose Molina had a hit. The Yankees are now 6 1/2 games ahead of the Red Sox for first place in the AL east depending on the outcome of the Sox game tonight which is currently in a rain delay tied at 5. The Yankees will send Sergio Mitre to the mound tomorrow against a starter that has still yet to be determined. The Yankees are also now currently 4 games ahead of the Angels for #1 seed and home field advantage thoroughout the playoffs. The Angels are currently losing and that could go to 4 1/2 or 3 1/2 with a Angels win.

Yanks cap another great homestand with walkoff win
The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays by the score of 4-3 this afternoon in 11 innings. A.J. Burnett got the start and battled his way through 6 innings giving up 3 runs, he had 7 strikeouts with only 2 walks but Jorge Posada really had a tough time catching him today. He gave up a season high 10 hits. Dave Robertson and Phil Hughes each pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Robertson had a strikeout and Phil Hughes had a couple of strikeouts. Chad Gaudin making his Yankees debut got the win with 2 scoreless innings. He really looked good, he has pretty good stuff it is just a matter of him being consistand and having good location. He will get the start on Sunday with Sergio Mitre on Saturday. I know people have been asking why Mitre again and I feel the same way but with Joba being pushed back to Wednesday and it looking like this is what they have to do the rest of the year they need Mitre to be in the rotation and they figure there hitting can cover it up and win some of those games. I am sure also with a 6 game lead it is much easier to do this. I know a lot of people also don't believe in this innings cap but it is proven now in Baseball that you have to be very careful with young pitchers, the guys who pitched a lot of innings the last couple of years were Justin Verlander who had a couple off years after making the world series until this year, Mike Pelfrey who has struggled the Tampa pitchers etc, I think you get the idea. I do want to point out also though this is only the regular season the Yankees said it doesn't matter in the postseason so he will be pitching a game 3 or 4.
The offense was led by Robinson Cano hitting a solo homerun and also having a walkoff single which would of been a double if it had to be. Derek Jeter got hit by a pitch in the first inning and had to leave the game, he wants to play tomorrow but I think he may have the day off. Jorge Posada got beat up also today but seems to be ok and the big news from after the game was that Mariano was creaky according to Joe Girardi, he said he isn't worried but of course with a older pitcher you have to be somewhat concerned. The manager said he expects him to be ok for tomorrow but we will have to see. A-rod got hit in the elbow in the 11th and was in obvious pain but stayed in and scored the winning run, he will be off tomorrow as was scheduled anyway but lets see after that, hopefully that will be all he needs. Johnny Damon had a couple of hits a walk and rbi. That was about it for the Yankees offense as they really didn't have a good game today. The Yankees will begin a 4 game series with Seattle tomorrow night.

A-rod hits 2 run walkoff in Classic game
I have managed to stay up for this great game. I am not going to do the statistics like I usually do. The pitching was the name of the game tonight for both teams, A.J. Burnett and Josh Beckett were just brilliant, A.J. gave up 1 hit in 7 2/3 innings and Beckett gave up 3 hits in 7 innings. The bullpens were equally brilliant as both teams pretty much used everyone. The Yankees have had a few chances but couldn't get the one big hit.
Ok as I am writing this A-rod hits a 2 run walkoff homerun. He said it best everyone is exhausted including me so I am going to go to bed while watching the post game and will be back tomorrow with more. This was some game and now the yankees have a 4 1/2 game lead and can really stomp on the Sox, this has to be crushing for them as they used their whole pen that was already tired and they have Clay Bucholz going tomorrow. CC needs to come up big and get the Yanks a win and a chance for a 4 game sweep.

Yanks win on Matsui walkoff homerun
The New York Yankees won their 3rd straight game 2-1 tonight. Andy Pettitte got the start and went 7 1/3 innings giving up 1 run on 6 hits, 2 walks and 8 strikeouts. Phil Coke came on and got 3 outs and Alfredo Aceves got the final 2 outs. Their were 2 sparkling defensive plays first by Big Tex to nail the guy at the plate with a good tag by Molina and then one play later on a wild pitch with Molina throwing to Phil Coke and nailing another guy at the plate.
Offensively there really is nothing to say, Eric Hinske hit a homerun and Matsui hit a walkoff homerun, no one in the lineup had more then 1 hit. The Yankees offense has to get going here but the most important thing is pitching and defense and ultimately if they keep doing those things well, they are going to be in great shape. The Yankees play tomorrow night with Sergio Mitre making his first start for the Yankees.

Yanks walkoff with win
The New York Yankees were trailing 4-2 in the ninth today when A-rod stepped to the plate with a man on. He fell behind in the count and then battled ending up hitting a game tying 2 run homerun. Robinson Cano came up hit a single up the middle stole second and Melky Cabrera who has become the king of the walkoffs hit a single to right center to win the game. Melky and Robbie both got pies in the face marking the first double pie this year for the Yankees. Andy Pettitte pitched well making one mistake in seven innings of work which ended up being a 3 run homerun to John Mayberry Jr. John Mayberry was making his major league debut. Phil Coke came on to pitch 1 2/3 of scoreless relief and Jose Veras made one pitch getting an out.
Mark Teixeira had a couple of hits and another spectacular play in the field, Derek Jeter had a solo homerun. Brett Gardner had a pinch hit double and that was all for the Yankees offense as they did virtually nothing against J.A. Happ who was making his season debut as a starter. The series finishes off tomorrow with a great matchup of lefties CC Sabathia and Cole Hamels.
