The New York Mets lose to the Atlanta Braves in extras on disputed call
The Atlanta Braves defeated the New York Mets on Wednesday afternoon. The final score was 4-1 and the game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. The game also went ten innings. Jon Niese started and pitched well. Daniel Murphy and Josh Satin each had two hits.
Niese pitched seven innings giving up five hits and a run with three walks and nine strikeouts. Gonzalez Germen pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one, LaTroy Hawkins pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Scott Atchison pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run. Atchison lost his second game of the season. Scott Rice gave up a hit and a run without recording an out and Greg Burke pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout.
Juan Lagares had a hit, Murphy had two hits and Marlon Byrd had a hit. Satin had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Justin Turner drew a walk and Wilmer Flores had a hit and drew a walk. John Buck drew a walk, Travis d’Arnaud drew a walk and Lagares and Turner each hit a double. Satin hit a homerun. The Mets were 0-9 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.
Alex Wood pitched six innings giving up six hits and a run. He walked two and struck out four. Jordan Walden pitched two perfect innings with four strikeouts, Luis Avilan pitched an inning giving up a hit and walking two. Avilan picked up his fifth win of the season and Craig Kimbrel picked up his 40th save of the season. Kimbrel pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one.
Andrelton Simmons had three hits and drew a walk, Freddie Freeman had three hits and an RBI and Johnson had a hit and three RBI. Brandon Laird had a hit and drew a walk, Gosselin drew a walk and Laird hit a double. Johnson hit a homerun and the Braves were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.
Satin hit a solo homerun in the fourth to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. Freeman hit an RBI single in the sixth tying the game at one. In the tenth Johnson hit a three run homerun to give the Braves a 4-1 lead and that was the final score.
The Mets record fell to 58-67 and the Braves record improved to 77-49. The Mets will have the day off on Thursday and then host the Detroit Tigers for a three game weekend series beginning on Friday night.
