The New York Mets bounce back with a win in San Diego


The New York Mets defeated the San Diego Padres on Friday night. The final score was 5-2 and the game took place at Petco Park in San Diego, California. Jon Niese started for the Mets and pitched well. Anthony Recker had three hits; Marlon Byrd and Omar Quintanilla each had a couple of hits.

Niese pitched six innings giving up six hits and a run with a walk and nine strikeouts. Niese won his fifth game of the season. Scott Rice pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts, Carlos Torres pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and LaTroy Hawkins saved his fourth game of the season. Hawkins pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one.

Eric Young Jr. had a hit and an RBI, Daniel Murphy had a hit and two RBI and Byrd had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk. Ike Davis had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks, Josh Satin had a hit and Mike Baxter had a hit. Recker had three hits and drew a walk, Quintanilla had two hits and Niese drew a walk. Recker and Baxter each hit a double. Byrd, Davis and Murphy each hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. Young had a stolen base and Baxter and Recker were each caught stealing.

Ian Kennedy lost his ninth game of the season. He pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and five runs. He walked four and struck out seven, Colt Hynes pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and striking out three and Sean O’Sullivan pitched two innings giving up three hits and striking out one. Dale Thayer pitched an inning giving up a walk.

Chris Denorfia had two hits, Will Venable had a hit and Chase Headley had a hit. Yonder Alonso had a hit and an RBI, Gyorko had three hits and Guzman drew a walk. Decker had a hit, Gyorko and Headley each hit a double and Venable hit a homerun. The Padres were 1-12 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.

Young hit an RBI groundout in the second to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead. Byrd and Davis hit back-to-back homeruns in the third inning. Venable hit a solo homerun in the third to extend the lead to 3-1 Padres. Murphy hit a two run homerun in the fourth to tie the game at three. Alonso hit an RBI single in the eighth and the final was 5-2 Mets.
