The New York Mets defeated the
Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night. The
game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was
4-2. Jon Niese pitched pretty well and the bullpen was pretty good. Juan Lagares, Daniel Murphy and Ruben Tejada
each had two hits.
Niese pitched 5 2/3 innings giving
up three hits and two runs with four walks and two strikeouts. Vic Black won his first game of the season
pitching 1 1/3 innings and giving up a hit and two walks with two strikeouts,
Jennry Mejia had his fourth save of the season.
He pitched two innings giving up a hit and two walks with a strikeout.
Edinson Volquez pitched five
innings giving up four hits and two runs with five walks and six
strikeouts. Jeanmar Gomez pitched 1/3 of
an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and he lost his second
game of the season, Justin Wilson pitched 1 2/3 perfect innings with three
strikeouts and Jason Grilli pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out
three.
Lagares had two hits and two RBI,
Murphy had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Curtis Granderson drew a
walk. Bobby Abreu had a hit, an RBI and
drew a walk, Lucas Duda drew a walk and Tejada had two hits and drew two
walks. Murphy, Tejada and Lagares each
hit a double and the Mets were 3-16 with runners in scoring position and left
10 men on base. Tejada had a stolen base
and committed an error. Campbell
committed an error and Granderson had an outfield assist.
Josh Harrison drew a walk, Jose
Tabata drew a walk and Andrew McCutchen had a hit and drew two walks. Gaby Sanchez had a hit and drew a walk,
Russell Martin drew a walk and Starling Marte had a hit, two RBI and drew a
walk. Neil Walker had a hit and drew a
walk, Clint Barmes had a hit and the Pirates were 1-7 with runners in scoring
position and left 11 men on base.
McCutchen committed an error.
In the third Abreu hit an RBI
single to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.
Lagares hit an RBI double in the fourth to extend the lead to 2-0. In the sixth Marte hit a two run single to
tie the game at two. In the bottom of
the sixth Lagares hit an RBI single and Murphy hit an RBI double to make it 4-2
and that was the final score. The two
teams will play the rubber game on Wednesday afternoon.
