The New York Yankees earn a split in series with the Chicago White Sox



The New York Yankees defeated the Chicago White Sox on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois and the final score was 7-1.  Masahiro Tanaka started and pitched well, the bullpen was good.  Derek Jeter led the offense with four hits. 

Tanaka pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up five hits and a run.  He walked two and struck out six and earned his seventh win of the season.  Adam Warren pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and striking out one and Matt Daley pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Andre Rienzo lost his first game of the season pitching five innings and giving up seven hits and five runs with four earned.  He walked two and struck out seven.   Javy Guerra pitched two innings giving up two hits and a run with three strikeouts and Scott Carroll pitched two innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk and two strikeouts. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and two RBI, Jeter had four hits and two RBI and Jacoby Ellsbury had an RBI and drew a walk.  Mark Teixeira drew a walk, Yangervis Solarte had a hit and Alfonso Soriano had two hits.  Ichiro Suzuki had a hit, Brian Roberts had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Soriano hit a double.  Jeter hit a triple and Roberts hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

Gordon Beckham had a hit, Conor Gillaspie had two hits and an RBI and Adam Dunn had a hit and drew a walk.  Alexei Ramirez had two hits, Alejandro De Aza drew a walk and Tyler Flowers had a hit.  Flowers and Dunn each hit a double and the White Sox were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Rienzo committed an error. 

In the second the Yankees took a 4-0 lead.  Gardner hit a two run single, Jeter hit an RBI single and Ellsbury hit a sacrifice fly.  A wild pitch gave the Yankees another run in the fourth to make it 5-0.  In the sixth Jeter hit an RBI single to push the lead to 6-0.  In the bottom of the sixth the White Sox scored their only run on a Gillaspie RBI single and the final run was scored in the eighth on a Roberts solo homerun to make it 7-1.  The teams split the four game series and the Yankees will head to St. Louis to begin a three game series on Monday afternoon.
