The New York Yankees look sluggish in loss to the Minnesota Twins



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Minnesota Twins on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-1.  Vidal Nuno started the game and gave up three homeruns.  The Yankees offense had two runners thrown out at home plate. 

Nuno pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up four runs on seven hits.  He struck out six and lost his second game of the season.  Preston Claiborne pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up three hits and two runs with two walks and three strikeouts and Matt Daley pitched a 1-2-3 inning. 

Ricky Nolasco won his third game of the season pitching six innings.  He gave up seven hits and a run with four walks and three strikeouts.  Caleb Thielbar pitched a perfect inning, Casey Fien pitched an inning giving up a hit and had two strikeouts and Glen Perkins pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two batters. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk, Derek Jeter had a hit and Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and an RBI.  Mark Teixeira drew three walks, Brian McCann had a hit and Brian Roberts had a hit.  Ichiro Suzuki had a hit, Yangervis Solarte had two hits and John Ryan Murphy had a hit.  Ellsbury and Solarte each hit a double and the Yankees were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Gardner had two stolen bases and Roberts was caught stealing. 

Danny Santana had a hit, Aaron Hicks drew a walk and Joe Mauer had a hit.  Josh Willingham had a hit and an RBI, Oswaldo Arcia had two hits and an RBI and Trevor Plouffe had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Kurt Suzuki had two hits and an RBI, Eduardo Nunez had a hit and an RBI and Eduardo Escobar had a hit.   Santana hit a double, Arcia, Willingham and Plouffe each hit a homerun.  The Twins were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Santana had a stolen base and Arcia had two outfield assists and Nolasco had a pickoff. 

Arcia hit a solo homerun in the second giving the Twins a 1-0 lead.  Ellsbury hit an RBI single in the third to tie the game at one.  In the fourth Willingham hit a solo homerun and Plouffe hit a two run homerun to give the Twins a 4-1 lead.  In the eighth Suzuki hit an RBI single and Nunez hit an RBI single to push the lead to 6-1.  6-1 was the final score of the game.  The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.  The Yankees will send their ace Masahiro Tanaka to the mound on Saturday.
