The New York Yankees win streak ends at three in St. Louis



The New York Yankees were defeated by the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri and the final score was 6-0.  David Phelps started for the Yankees and pitched pretty well, the defense was sloppy.  The offense only managed five hits. 

Phelps pitched six innings giving up eight hits and five runs with three of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out five and lost his second game of the season.  Alfredo Aceves pitched two innings giving up two hits and a run with three strikeouts. 

Lance Lynn won his sixth game of the season pitching a complete game shutout.  He gave up five hits and three walks with two strikeouts. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Derek Jeter drew a walk and Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and drew a walk.  Brian McCann had a hit and drew a walk, Brian Roberts had a hit and Brendan Ryan had a hit.  McCann and Roberts each hit a double. The Yankees were 0-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.   Kelly Johnson and Roberts each committed an error. 

Matt Carpenter had a hit, Matt Holliday had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Matt Adams had three hits and an RBI.  Yadier Molina drew a walk, Allen Craig had two hits and two RBI and Jhonny Peralta had a hit and an RBI.  Adams hit a double, Craig and Holliday each hit a homerun.  The Cardinals were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

In the third Adams hit an RBI double, Craig reached on a missed catch error allowing a run to score.  Peralta reached on a force attempt, error by Roberts allowing two runs to score.  It was 4-0 Cardinals and they added a run in the in the fifth on a Craig solo homerun.  The Cardinals scored the sixth and final run of the game in the seventh on a Holliday solo homerun.  The two teams will play the rubber game of the series on Wednesday night and the Yankees will play the rubber game of their nine game road trip.  They are 4-4 on the trip so far.
