Masahiro Tanaka dominates in spring debut as New York Yankees defeat the Atlanta Braves



The New York Yankees defeated the Atlanta Braves by the score of 3-2 on Thursday evening.  The game took place at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida.  Masahiro Tanaka made his spring debut and pitched two perfect innings and did it very economically.  Didi Gregorius hit a triple and Jake Cave hit an RBI double. 

Tanaka pitched two perfect innings with a couple of strikeouts.  He didn't walk a batter and only threw 19 pitches in the two innings and had to finish out the rest in the bullpen.  Scott Baker pitched three innings giving up two hits and a run with three strikeouts, David Carpenter pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run and Justin Wilson picked up the win pitching a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts.  Kyle Davies pitched an inning giving up a hit and Wilken Rodriguez picked up the save pitching an inning and giving up a hit. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, Nick Noonan had an RBI and Brett Gardner had an RBI.  Carlos Beltran had a hit, Austin Romine had a hit and Chase Headley had a hit.  Alex Rodriguez drew a walk, Stephen Drew had a walk and Gregorius had a hit.  Cave had a hit and an RBI, Cave and Romine each hit a double and Gregorius hit a triple.  The Yankees were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

In the third Gardner hit an RBI groundout to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Todd Cunningham hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  In the sixth the Braves took a 2-1 lead.  Alberto Callaspo hit a sacrifice fly adn then in the seventh Cave hit an RBI double to tie the game at two.  Noonan hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead and that was the final score.  The Yankees will take on the Boston Red Sox from Fort Myers, Florida on Friday night.
