The New York Mets beat up on the Atlanta Braves



The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves by the score of 13-2 on Friday afternoon.  The game took place at Tradition Field in Port St. Lucie, Florida.  Jon Niese made the start for the Mets and pitched pretty well.  Curtis Granderson and Wilmer Flores led the offense. 

Niese pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up three hits and no runs.  He walked one and struck out three.  Zach Thornton pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and a run with a strikeout, Sean Gilmartin pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with two walks and a strikeout and Chase Bradford pitched an inning giving up a hit.  Jack Leathersich pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and Buddy Carlyle pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Granderson had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Flores had three hits and three RBI and Gavin Cecchini drew a walk.  David Wright had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Kirk Nieuwenhuis had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and John Mayberry Jr. had a hit and an RBI.  Cesar Puello drew a walk, Travis d'Arnaud had a hit and two RBI and Johnny Monell had a hit.  Eric Campbell had a hit, Matt den Dekker drew three walks and Ruben Tejada had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk.  Mayberry Jr. d'Arnaud, Flores, Tejada, Campbell and Nieuwenhuis each hit a double.  Flores hit a homerun and the Mets were 7-16 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Flores committed an error. 

In the first a wild pitched scored the Mets first run.  Mayberry hit an RBI double and it was 2-0 Mets,  d'Arnaud hit a two run double and it was 4-0 Mets.  Tejada hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 3-0 Mets.   In the second Wright hit an RBI single to increase the Mets lead to 6-0.  Nieuwenhuis hit an RBI groundout and it was 7-0 Mets.  In the third Granderson hit an RBI single and Flores hit a three run homerun and it was 11-0 Mets.  The Braves finally got on the board in the fifth on a Phil Gosselin RBI single to make it a 11-1 game.  Matt Kennelly grounded into a double play in the sixth and it made it an 11-2 game.  Tejada drew an RBI walk in the sixth to push the lead to 12-2.  In the seventh Nieuwenhuis hit an RBI double to give the Mets a 13-2 lead and that was the final score.  The Mets will take on the Washington Nationals from Port St. Lucie, Florida on Saturday afternoon.
