The New York Yankees were defeated
by the Baltimore Orioles by the score of 3-1 on Tuesday afternoon. The game took place in Sarasota, Florida and
Chase Whitley got the start for the Yankees.
Whitley pitched well as did Esmil Rogers out of the bullpen for
him. The Yankees offense was led by
Chase Headley who was 3-3 and Gary Sanchez who hit a homerun.
Whitley pitched three innings
giving up two hits and no runs with three walks and a strikeout. Rogers pitched an inning striking out two,
Branden Pinder pitched an inning giving up four hits and two runs with a
strikeout and took the loss and Jose Ramirez pitched an inning giving up two
hits and struck out one. Chasen Shreve
pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout, Jacob Lindgren
pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.
Headley had three hits, Mark
Teixeira had a hit and drew a walk and Sanchez had a hit and an RBI. Jose Pirela had a hit and drew a walk, Ramon
Flores drew a walk and Headley hit a double and Sanchez hit a homerun. The Yankees were 1-7 with runners in scoring
position and left seven men on base.
Pirela had a stolen base.
In the fifth Jonathan Schoop hit an
RBI double to give the Orioles a 1-0 lead.
Manny Machado hit an RBI single in the fifth and it was 2-0
Orioles. In the seventh Rey Navarro hit
a solo homerun to extend the Orioles lead to 3-0. Sanchez hit a solo homerun in the ninth to
get the Yankees on the board at 3-1 and that was the final score. The Yankees will be home to take on the
Boston Red Sox on Wednesday afternoon.
