The New York Yankees defeated the
Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night. The
game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-2. Chase Whitley was called up to make a spot
start and he pitched well. The bullpen
was really good and Jacoby Ellsbury and Brian McCann led the offense.
Whitley pitched five innings giving
up six hits and a run with a walk and five strikeouts. Chasen Shreve pitched 1/3 of an inning giving
up a hti adn a run with a walk and a strikeout, Esmil Rogers pitched 2 2/3 innings
giving up a hit and a walk and struck out five and Chris Martin saved his first
game pitching an inning and struck out one.
Jake Odorizzi lost his second game
of the season pitching 6 1/3 innings givign up nine hits and four runs. He walked none and struck out four. Xavier Cedeno pitched 2/3 of an inning givign
up a walk and struck out one and Erasmo Ramirez pitched a perfect inning with a
strikeout.
Ellsbury had three hits, Brett
Gardner had a hit and an RBI and Mark Teixeira had a hit and drew a walk. McCann had two hits and three RBI, Chase
Headley had a hit and Didi Gregorius had a hit.
Teixeira hit a double and McCann hit two doubles and the Yankees were
2-9 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Ellsbury had two stolen bases and Gardner had
a stolen base.
Steven Souza Jr. had a hit and drew
a walk, Asdrubal Cabrera had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and James Lones
had two hits and drew a walk. Logan
Forsythe had two hits and an RBI, Kevin Kiermaier had two hits and Cabrera and
Kiermaier each hit a double. Forsythe
hit a triple and the Rays were 1-12 with runners in scoring position and left
ten men on base. Rivera committed an
error.
In the first Gardner hit an RBI
groundout to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.
In the first McCann hit an RBI double to make it a 2-0 game. Cabrera hit an RBI double in the third and
cut the Yankees lead to 2-1. McCann hit
a two run double in the fifth and the Yankees lead doubled to 4-1. Forsythe hit an RBI triple in the sixth to
cut the lead to 4-2 but that was the final score.
The Yankees will look for the
series sweep on Wednesday afternoon. The
Yankees will then be off on Thursday and head to Fenway Park for a big three
game series against their division rivals the Boston Red Sox.
