The New York Yankees defeat the Tampa Bay Rays in a well pitched game



The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-1.  Adam Warren started for the Yankees and pitched well and the bullpen was great.  Brian McCann had a couple of hits and Stephen Drew was on base three times to lead the offense. 

Warren pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up one run on five hits.  He walked none and struck out six.  Justin Wilson earned his first victory of the season pitching an inning with a strikeout, David Carpenter pitched 1/3 of an inning and walked a batter and Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.  Andrew Miller saved his eighth game of the season pitching an inning giving up a hit and striking out one. 

Nathan Karns pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with two walks and five strikeouts.  Brandon Gomes took his first loss of the season pitching an inning and giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout and Everett Teaford pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up four hits and a run with two walks and two strikeouts. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Brett Gardner had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Alex Rodriguez drew a walk.  Brian McCann had two hits and an RBI, Carlos Beltran had a hit and Stephen Drew had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Didi Gregorius had a hit and drew a walk, Beltran,  Drew and Gardner each hit a double.  McCann hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Ellsbury had a stolen base. 

David DeJesus had a hit, Steven Souza Jr. had a hit and Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and an RBI.  Evan Longoria had two hits, Tim Beckham drew a walk, Rene Rivera had a hit and Cabrera hit a double.  The Rays were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

Gardner had an RBI walk in the fifth to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Cabrera reached on a fielder's choice  and a run scored to tie the game.  The Yankees took the lead in the sixth on a McCann solo homerun.  Drew hit an RBI double and it was 3-1 Yankees.  In the eighth Ellsbury was hit by a pitch scoring a run and making it a 4-1 game which was the final score.  The Yankees and Rays will play game two of their series on Tuesday night.
