The New York Mets defeated the
Atlanta Braves on Friday night. The game
took place at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia and the final score was 5-1
Mets. Steven Matz started for the Mets
and pitched ok and the bullpen was good.
Yoenis Cespedes led the offense with three hits including a two run
homerun.
Matz pitched five innings giving up
a run on six hits. He walked two and
struck out two and earned his third win of the season. Erik Goeddel pitched a perfect inning with a
strikeout, Addison Reed pitched a perfect inning striking out the side and
Tyler Clippard pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out two. Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a
hit and he struck out one.
Matt Wisler lost his seventh game
of the season pitching six innings giving up seven hits and two runs with three
walks and six strikeouts. Matt
Marksberry pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and struck out one, Peter
Moylan pitched to one batter and retired him.
Andrew McKirahan pitched to two batters retiring them both, Arodys
Vizcaino pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and three runs with two
of them being earned. He walked one
batter and Brandon Cunniff pitched a perfect inning.
Curtis Granderson had a hit and drew
two walks, Cespedes had three hits and three RBI and Daniel Murphy had two
hits. Lucas Duda had a hit and drew two
walks, Michael Conforto had two hits and Michael Cuddyer had a hit. Ruben Tejada had a hit, Cespedes hit a double
and a homerun. The Mets were 0-9 with
runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. Duda
committed an error.
Nick Markakis had two hits, Daniel
Castro had two hits and an RBI and Freddie Freeman had a hit and drew a
walk. Adonis Garcia had two hits,
Andrelton Simmons had two hits and Michael Bourn drew a walk. Markakis hit a double and Castro hit a homerun.
The Braves were 0-7 with runners in
scoring position and left ten men on base.
Bourn had a stolen base and Bethancourt had a passed ball.
In the third Cespedes hit an RBI
double to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.
In the fifth a balk scored the second run to give the Mets a 2-0
lead. In the fifth Castro hit a solo
homerun to cut the lead to 2-1 Mets. A
passed ball in the eighth made it 3-1 and in the ninth Cespedes hit a two run
homerun to push the lead to 5-1 and that would be the final score. The two teams will play game three of four on
Saturday night.
