The New York Mets rally to defeat the Washington Nationals



The New York Mets defeated the Washington Nationals on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Nationals Park in Washington D.C. and the final score was 8-7 Mets.  Matt Harvey started and he didn't pitch well at all, the bullpen was good.  David Wright had two hits to lead the offense. 

Harvey pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and seven runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  Erik Goeddel pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and struck out two, Addison Reed pitched an inning giving up a hit and struck out two and won his third game of the season and Tyler Clippard pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts.  Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk and saved his 38th game of the season. 

Jordan Zimmerman pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and six strikeouts.  Matt Thornton pitched to one batter and retired him, Blake Treinen pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and three runs with a walk and Felipe Rivero pitched giving up two runs and two walks.  Drew Storen pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up  a hit and a run with three walks and Jonathan Papelbon pitched two innings giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout and lost his second game of the season. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit and an RBI and drew two walks, Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and three RBI and Daniel Murphy drew a walk.  Wright had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Lucas Duda had an RBI and drew a walk and Travis d'Arnaud had a hit.  Michael Conforto drew a walk, Wilmer Flores had a hit and an RBI and Juan Uribe drew a walk.  Kirk Nieuwenhuis had a hit and an RBI, Cespedes hti a double and Granderson hit a triple.  Wright and Nieuwenhuis hit a homerun.  The Mets were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Cespedes committed an error and Conforto had an outfield assist. 

Jayson Werth had two hits, Anthony Rendon had two hits and an RBI and Bryce Harper drew a walk.  Yunel Escobar had three hits, Clint Robinson had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Ian Desmond had a hit and an RBI.  Michael Taylor had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Werth hit a double and the Nationals were 4-10 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

In the first Robinson hit an RBI single to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead.  Desmond hit an RBI single and the lead grew to 2-0 Nationals.  In the second Wright hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 2-1 Nationals.  In the second Rendon hit an RBI single to push the lead to 3-1 and in the sixth Taylor hit an RBI single and an error turned it into three runs and gave the Nationals a 7-1 lead.  In the seventh Flores hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 7-2 and Granderson drew an RBI walk to make it 7-3.  Cespedes hit a three run double and the lead was down to 7-6 Nationals.  Duda drew an RBI walk to tie the game at seven.  In the eighth Nieuwenhuis hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 8-7 lead and that would be the final score.  The Mets have taken the first two games of the three game series.
