The New York Yankees were defeated
by the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday night.
The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the
final score was 5-3 Orioles. CC Sabathia
started and pitched ok, the bullpen was pretty good but sloppy defense by
Stephen Drew hurt the Yankees. The Yankees
offense also was invisible except for Carlos Beltran who had all three
RBI.
Sabathia pitched 4 2/3 innings
giving up four hits and three runs with only one of them being earned. He walked three and struck out five. Adam Warren took his sixth loss of the season
pitching 2 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a
strikeout, Nick Rumbelow pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a run and a walk
with a strikeout and James Pazos got the one batter out that he faced. Bryan Mitchell pitched 2/3 of an inning
giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout.
Ubaldo Jimenez won his 11th game of
the season pitching seven innings giving up four hits and three runs with no
walks and eight strikeouts. Darren O'Day
pitched a perfect inning and Zach Britton pitched a perfect inning with a
strikeout and saved his 32nd save of the season.
Beltran had two hits and three RBI,
Dustin Ackley had a hit and Stephen Drew had a hit. Ackley hit a double and Beltran hit a
homerun. The Yankees were 1-5 with runners
in scoring position and left two men on base.
Ellsbury had a stolen base and Drew committed an error.
Nolan Reimold had a hit and drew
two walks, Gerardo Parra had a hit and Manny Machado had a hit and drew a
walk. Chris Davis had two hits, two RBI
and drew two walks, Jonathan Schoop had a hit and Steve Pearce had a hit and an
RBI. Dariel Alvarez drew a walk, Machado
and Davis each hit a double and Pearce hit a homerun. The Orioles were 2-12 with runners in scoring
position and left ten men on base.
Joseph committed an error.
In the first Davis hit an RBI
single to give the Orioles a 1-0 lead.
Beltran hit a solo homerun in the first to tie the game at one. In the third Beltran hit a two run single to
make it 3-1 Yankees. In the fifth the Orioles
tied the game at three on an error by Drew.
In the eighth Pearce hit a solo homerun to make it 4-3 Orioles and they
added another run in the ninth to make it 5-3 which was the final score. The Yankees lost two out of three in the
series and will begin a four game series with the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday
night which will be for first place in the AL East.
