The New York Yankees take the Subway Series



The New York Yankees defeated the New York Mets on Sunday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 11-2.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and pitched very well and Matt Harvey started for the Mets and pitched great but was on an innings limit of five innings.  The Yankees bullpen was good and the Mets not so good, Jacoby Ellsbury led the Yankees offense with three hits and Michael Cuddyer had two hits for the Mets. 

Sabathia pitched six innings giving up one run on five hits and he walked three and struck out seven.  Sabathia won his fifth game of the season and first since July.  Nick Rumbelow pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts, Chris Capuano pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and Nick Goody pitched a perfect inning. 

Harvey pitched five innings giving up a hit and no runs.  He walked one and struck out seven.  Hansel Robles pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and five runs with one of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out two and took the loss.  Sean Gilmartin pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Eric O'Flaherty pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and Eric Goeddel pitched 1/3 of an inning and walked one.  Carlos Torres pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and three runs with two walks and a strikeout and Tim Stauffer pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts. 

Ellsbury had three hits and an RBI, Brett Gardner had a hit and Carlos Beltran had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Brian McCann had a hit and an RBI, Greg Bird had a hit, three RBI and drew two walks and Chase headley had an RBI and drew three walks.  Dustin Ackley had a hit and three RBI, Didi Gregorius had a hit and Alex Rodriguez drew a pinch hit walk.  Beltran hit a double, Ackley and Bird each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 6-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Ellsbury and Rico Noel each had a stolen base. 

Ruben Tejada had a hit, David Wright had a hit and an RBI and Yoenis Cespedes had a hit.  Eric Campbell had a hit, Daniel Murphy had a hit and an RBI and Travis d'Arnaud drew a walk.  Lucas Duda drew a walk, Michael Cuddyer had two hits and Juan Lagares drew a walk.  Tejada, Wright, Cuddyer, Cespdes and Campbell each hit a double.  The Mets were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Harvey, Murphy, Wright and Lagares each committed an error. 

In the first Wright hit an RBI double to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Beltran hit a two run double  and Ackley hit a three run homerun to make it 5-1 Yankees.  In the seventh Headley drew an RBI walk to push the lead to 6-1.  In the eighth it became 8-1 on an Ellsbury RBI single and McCann RBI single.  Bird hit a three run homerun to push the lead to 11-1 in the eighth.  In the eighth Murphy  hit an RBI single to make it 11-2 and that would be the final score.  The Yankees took two out of three in the series and will head to Toronto to take on the first place Blue Jays in a showdown.  The Yankees are now two out of first in the loss column and the Mets are six games up in the NL East.  The Mets will remain home to take on the Atlanta Braves.
