The New York Yankees defeated the
New York Mets on Tuesday night. The game
took place at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida and the final
score was 6-3. Luis Severino started for
the Yankees and pitched pretty well and Alex Rodriguez led their offense with
two hits and two RBI. Steven Matz started
for the Mets and didn't pitch very well, Yoenis Cespedes led their offense with
three hits.
Severino pitched 4 1/3 innings
giving up five hits and two runs with a walk and five strikeouts. Aroldis Chapman pitched 2/3 of an inning
giving up a hit and he struck out one, Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving
up two hits and he struck out two and Andrew Miller pitched an inning giving up
a hit and he struck out two. Tyler Olson
pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and Diego
Moreno pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts.
Steven Matz pitched four innings
giving up seven hits and five runs with two walks and three strikeouts. Hansel Robles pitched an inning giving up a
hit and he struck out three, Duane Below pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two
hits and a run and Zach Thornton pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and Paul
Sewald pitched a perfect inning.
Brett Gardner had a hit and an RBI,
Aaron Hicks had a hit and drew a walk and Dustin Fowler had a hit and an
RBI. Rodriguez had two hits and two RBI,
Mark Teixeira drew a walk and Carlos Beltran had an RBI. Brian McCann had two hits, Chase Headley had
a hit and Starlin Castro had a hit. Didi
Gregorius had two hits and an RBI, Castro, McCann and Gregorius each hit a
double. The Yankees were 5-11 with
runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Hicks had a stolen base and Fowler also had a
stolen base. Headley committed an error
and Gardner had an outfield assist.
Curtis Granderson had two hits, Ty
Kelly had an RBI and drew a walk and Neil Walker had an RBI. Cespedes had three hits and an RBI, Travis
Taijeron had a hit and Lucas Duda had a hit.
Travis d'Arnaud drew a walk, Alejandro De Aza had two hits and Eric
Campbell had a hit. Johnny Monell had
two hits and Matt Reynolds drew a walk.
Granderson hit two doubles and Cespedes hit a double. The Mets were 1-11 with runners in scoring
position and left 12 men on base.
Cespedes had a stolen base.
In the second inning Gregorius hit
an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead, Gardner hit an RBI single and it
was 2-0 Yankees. Rodriguez hit a two run
single and the lead was pushed to 4-0.
Beltran hit a sac fly and the lead was 5-0 for the Yankees all in the
second inning. In the fifth Walker hit
an RBI groundout to cut the lead to 5-1 and Cespedes hit an RBI double to make
it a 5-2 game. In the sixth Fowler hit
an RBI groundout to push the lead to 6-2.
The Mets scored on an RBI walk by Kelly in the eighth to make it 6-3 and
that would be the final score.
The Yankees improved their spring
record to 9-9 with a couple of ties and the Mets record fell to 7-10 with a
couple of ties. The Yankees will head to
Viera, Florida to take on the Washington Nationals on Wednesday evening and the
Mets will head to Dunedin, Florida to take on the Toronto Blue Jays.
