New York Mets eight game winning streak ends in loss to the San Francisco Giants



The New York Mets were defeated by the San Francisco Giants on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 6-1.  Noah Syndergaard started for the Mets and he didn't pitch very well.  Juan Lagares, David Wright and Neil Walker each had two hits. 

Syndergaard pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up five hits and four runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  He took his first loss of the season.  Hansel Robles pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Antonio Bastardo pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and Logan Verrett pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout.  Jerry Blevins pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Madison Bumgarner won his third game of the season pitching six innings and giving up six hits and no runs.  He walked three and struck out seven.  Derek Law didn't record an out and he gave up two hits and a run, Javier Lopez pitched to one batter retiring him and Cory Gearrin pitched an inning giving up two hits.  Josh Osich pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one and Santiago Casilla pitched an inning walking one and striking out a batter. 

Lagares had two hits and drew a walk, Wright had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and drew a walk.  Walker had two hits, Wilmer Flores had a hit and Kevin Plawecki had a hit.  Eric Campbell had a hit and drew a walk, Cespedes hit a double and Lagares hit a double.  The Mets were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  Cespedes had an outfield assist. 

Angel Pagan had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Matt Duffy had two hits and Buster Posey had two hits and an RBI.  Brandon Belt had an RBI and drew a walk, Hunter Pence had two hits and three RBI and Brandon Crawford had a hit.  Kelby Tomlinson drew a walk, Pence and Posey each hit a homerun and the Giants were 4-9 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Crawford and Tomlinson each had a stolen base and Duffy had two stolen base. 

In the fourth Belt hit an RBI groundout to give the Giants a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Pence hit a two run homerun to extend the lead to 3-0.  In the sixth Pence hit an RBI single to push the lead to 4-0 Giants.  Pagan hit an RBI single in the seventh and it was 5-0.  Wright hit an RBI single to get the Mets on the board in the bottom of the seventh and cut the lead to 5-1.  Posey hit a solo homerun in the eighth and it was 6-1 Giants which would be the final score.  The Mets had won eight in a row prior to this loss and ended up winning two out of three in the series. 

The Mets will begin a three game series at home with the Atlanta Braves on Monday night.
