The New York Yankees lose a tough one in extra innings 1-0



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday night.  The game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland and the final score was 1-0.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and was great but their offense was brutal again.  Starlin Castro did have two hits. 

Tanaka pitched eight shutout innings giving up five hits.  He had a walk and seven strikeouts.  Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one, Johnny Barbato took his second loss of the season giving up two hits and a run and Andrew Miller got out the only batter of the game but it was a sac fly to end the game. 

Kevin Gausman pitched eight innings giving up three hits and no runs with no walks and four strikeouts.  Darren O'Day pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Zach Britton won his second game of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings with a walk and three strikeouts. 

Castro had two hits, Brian McCann drew a walk and Mark Teixeira had a hit.  Aaron Hicks had a hit, Castro hit a double.  The Yankees were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Gardner had a stolen base and Castro was picked off.  Ackley had an outfield assist. 

Adam Jones had a hit, Mark Trumbo drew a walk and Matt Wieters had two hits.  Hyun Soo Kim had a hit and drew a walk, Jonathan Schoop had two hits and Pedro Alvarez had an RBI.  Ryan Flaherty had a hit.  The Orioles were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Wieters had a pickoff. 

The only run of the game came in the tenth on a Alvarez sac fly.  The final score was 1-0 Baltimore in ten innings.  The Yankees were 2-7 on the road trip and will now come home for a ten game homestand beginning on Friday night against the Boston Red Sox.
