The New York Mets were defeated by
the San Diego Padres on Friday night.
The game took place at Petco Park in San Diego, California and the final
score was 2-0. Noah Syndergaard started for
the Mets and pitched well as usual but the offense only managed three hits and
two were by one player.
Syndergaard pitched six innings
giving up six hits and two runs with two walks and five strikeouts. He lost his second game of the season. Jim Henderson pitched a perfect inning with
two strikeouts, Jerry Blevins pitched to one batter and struck him out and
Addison Reed pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits.
Drew Pomeranz started for the
Padres and pitched five innings giving up a hit and no runs with three walks
and five strikeouts. He won his third
game of the season. Kevin Quakenbush
pitched a perfect inning, Ryan Buchter pitched an inning giving up two hits and
Brandon Maurer pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts. Fernando Rodney saved his eighth game of the
season and pitched an inning walking two and striking out two.
Curtis Granderson drew a walk,
David Wright drew a walk and Yoenis Cespedes drew a walk. Lucas Duda drew a walk, Asdrubal Cabrera had
two hits and Wilmer Flores had a hit.
Rene Rivera drew a walk, Flores hit a double and the Mets were 0-4 with
runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.
Jon Jay had three hits and an RBI,
Matt Kemp had a hit and an RBI and Alex Dickerson had a hit. Melvin Upton Jr. had a hit and drew a walk,
Alexei Ramirez had two hits and Jemile Weeks drew a walk. Jay hit a double and the Padres were 1-4 with
runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Ramirez and Weeks each had a stolen base and
Ramirez was caught stealing. Upton Jr.
had an outfield assist.
In the first Kemp hit a sac fly to
give the Mets a 1-0 lead. In the fifth
Jay hit an RBI single to make it 2-0 and that would be the final score.
The Mets have lost the first two
games of the series. The two teams will
play game three of four on Saturday night.
