The New York Mets defeated the
Atlanta Braves on Monday night. The game
took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was
4-1. Bartolo Colon started for the Mets
and pitched great and they were powered by three homeruns all in the first
inning.
Colon pitched eight shutout innings
giving up seven hits and he struck out seven.
Colon picked up his second win of the season and Jeurys Familia pitched
an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout.
Mike Foltynewicz pitched 3 2/3
innings giving up eight hits and four runs with two walks and four
strikeouts. He took his first loss of
the season. Bud Norris pitched 2 1/3
scoreless giving up two walks, Eric O'Flaherty pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings
striking out one and Alexi Ogando pitched 2/3 of an inning walking one.
Curtis Granderson had a hit, David
Wright had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Michael Conforto had a
hit. Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and two
RBI, Lucas Duda had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Neil Walker drew a
walk. Asdrubal Cabrera had two hits,
Kevin Plawecki drew two walks and Cabrera and Granderson each hit a
double. Wright, Cespedes and Duda each
hit a homerun. The Mets were 1-6 with
runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Walker had a stolen base.
Nick Markakis had a hit, Daniel Castro had a hit and Freddie
Freeman had a hit. Adonis Garcia had two
hits, A.J. Pierzynski had a hit, Eric Aybar had two hits and an RBI and Chase
d'Arnaud had a hit. Freeman, Pierzynski
and Garcia each hit a double and the Braves were 2-8 with runners in scoring
position and left seven men on base.
In the first Wright hit a solo
homerun giving the Mets a 1-0 lead.
Cespedes and Duda went back-to-back still in the first to give the Mets
a 4-0 lead. In the ninth Aybar hit an
RBI single to cut the lead to 4-1 but that would be the final score.
The two teams will play game two of
three on Tuesday night. The Mets have
won 9 out of their last 10 games.
