The New York Mets were defeated by
the Miami Marlins on Tuesday night. The
game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was
5-2. Steven Matz started for the Mets
and pitched pretty well, Erik Goeddel did not out of the bullpen. Yoenis Cespedes had two of the teams four
hits.
Matz pitched seven innings giving
up six hits and two runs with a walk and six strikeouts. He lost his fourth game of the season. Goeddel pitched an inning giving up two hits
and three runs and Antonio Bastardo pitched an inning giving up a hit and he
struck out two.
Wei-Yin Chen won his fifth game of
the season pitching seven innings and giving up three hits and a run with a
walk and five strikeouts. Fernando
Rodney pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and A.J. Ramos
pitched an inning with a walk and saved his 25th game of the season.
Cespedes had two hits, an RBI and
drew a walk, James Loney had a hit and drew a walk and Alejandro De Aza had a
hit and an RBI. Cespedes and De Aza each
hit a homerun and the Mets were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left
five men on base.
Martin Prado had a hit, Marcell
Ozuna had two hits and drew a walk and Giancarlo Stanton had three hits and
five RBI. Chris Johnson had a hit,
Miguel Rojas had a hit and Jeff Mathis had a hit. Stanton hit two homeruns and the Marlins were
1-4 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. Rojas had a stolen base.
In the fourth Cespedes hit a solo
homerun giving the Mets a 1-0 lead. In
the seventh Stanton hit a two run homerun and it was 2-1 Marlins. In the eighth Stanton hit a three run homerun
to make it 5-1 Marlins. De Aza hit a
solo homerun in the eighth to cut the lead to 5-2 and that would be the final
score.
The two teams will play the rubber
game of the three game series on Wednesday night.
