New York Mets win an offensive game late



The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Monday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 8-6.  Matt Harvey started for the Mets and was hit around, the bullpen did a great job.  Yoenis Cespedes and Travis d'Arnaud each had three hits to lead the offense. 

Harvey pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up 11 hits and six runs with five of them being earned.  He walked none and struck out four.  Erik Goeddel pitched 1/3 of an inning with a strikeout, Logan Verrett pitched two innings giving up three hits and he struck out one and Hansel Robles pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a walk with two strikeouts.  Jerry Blevins won his third game of the season pitching to one batter and striking him out, Jeurys Familia saved his 29th game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout. 

Tim Koehler pitched five innings giving up seven hits and two runs with a walk.  Kyle Barraclough pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with a walk, David Phelps pitched an inning giving up a hit and two runs with two walks and a strikeout and Fernando Rodney lost his second game of the season pitching an inning and giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit and an RBI, Neil Walker drew three walks and Cespedes had three hits and two RBI.  James Loney had a hit and an RBI, Asdrubal Cabrera had two hits and drew a walk and Wilmer Flores had a hit and an RBI.  Brandon Nimmo had a hit and drew a walk, d'Arnaud had three hits and two RBI and Harvey had a hit.  Cespedes hit two doubles and d'Arnaud and Granderson each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 3-12 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Cabrera had a stolen base and Nimmo and Harvey each committed an error.  Cespedes had an outfield assist. 

J.T. Realmuto had four hits and drew a walk, Christian Yelich had two hits and two RBI and Marcell Ozuna had a hit and drew a walk.  Giancarlo Stanton had a hit, Derek Dietrich had two hits and Chris Johnson had three hits and an RBI.  Adeiny Hechavarria had two hits and an RBI, Koehler had a hit and an RBI and Ichiro Suzuki had a hit.  Hechavarria, Suzuki each hit a double and the Marlins were 5-13 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Realmuto had a stolen base. 

In the second Johnson hit an RBI single to give the Marlins a 1-0 lead.  Hechavarria hit an RBI double to push the lead to 2-0.  Koehler hit an RBI single making it a 3-0 game.  In the fourth Prado reached on a force attempt error and the score was 4-0 Marlins.  Yelich hit an RBI single and the Marlins lead was extended to 6-0.  In the bottom of the fourth d'Arnaud hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 6-1.  In the fifth Granderson hit a solo homerun to make it a 6-2 game.  In the sixth d'Arnaud  hit an RBI single and the lead was cut in half to 6-3.  Johnson grounded into a double play but a run scored to make it a 6-4 game and in the seventh Loney hit an RBI groundout and the score was now 6-5.  Flores hit a sac fly to tie the game in the seventh.  In the eighth Cespedes hit a two run double and the Mets had the lead at 8-6 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two on Tuesday night and end their series on Wednesday night.
