The New York Yankees were defeated
by the San Diego Padres on Friday night.
The game took place at Petco Park in San Diego, California and the final
score was 7-6 Nathan Eovaldi started for
the Yankees and he didn't pitch very well.
Didi Gregorius had two hits to lead the offense.
Eovaldi pitched 4 1/3 innings
giving up seven hits and six runs with three walks and two strikeouts. Eovaldi lost his sixth game of the
season. Conor Mullee pitched an inning giving
up a walk and he struck out one, Richard Bleier pitched an inning giving up a
hit and an unearned run with a walk and a strikeout and Anthony Swarzak pitched
1 2/3 innings striking out one.
Colin Rea pitched six innings
giving up four hits and two runs with one of them being earned. He walked one and struck out five and he won
his fifth game of the season. Brad Hand
pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts, Ryan Buchter pitched an inning
with two strikeouts and Matt Thornton gave up a hit and three runs with a
walk. Brandon Maurer pitched an inning
giving up two hits and a run and he got his first save of the season.
Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and an
RBI, Mark Teixeira had a hit and Brian McCann had a hit, an RBI and drew a
walk. Starlin Castro drew a walk, Alex
Rodriguez had a hit and an RBI and Gregorius had two hits and an RBI. Aaron Hicks had an RBI, Carlos Beltran had a
hit and Gregorius and Beltran each hit a double. McCann hit a homerun and the Yankees were
4-11 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. Ellsbury had a stolen base, McCann committed
an error and McCann had a passed ball.
Eovaldi had a pickoff.
Travis Jankowski had a hit, Wil
Myers had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Yangervis Solarte had two hits
and drew two walks. Melvin Upton Jr. had
a hit and an RBI, Derek Norris had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Ryan
Schimpf had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.
Norris and Solarte each hit a double and Schimpf and Myers each hit a
homerun. The Padres were 2-10 with
runners in scoring position and left five men on base. Myers and Upton Jr. each had a stolen
base. Upton Jr. was picked off, Norris
committed an error and had a passed ball.
In the first Upton Jr. hit an RBI
single to give the Padres a 1-0 lead.
Norris hit a two run double and the lead was 3-0. In the second Ellsbury hit an RBI single to
cut the lead to 3-1. In the bottom of
the second Schimpf hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 4-1. In the fifth Myers hit a two run homerun and
it was 6-1 Padres. In the sixth McCann
hit a solo homerun to cut it to 6-2. In
the seventh a passed ball made it 7-2.
In the ninth Rodriguez hit an RBI single, Gregorius hit an RBI double
and Hicks hit an RBI ground out to make it 7-5.
A wild pitch cut the lead to 7-6 but that would be the final score.
The two teams will play game two of
three on Saturday night. The Yankees are
in the middle of a ten game road trip to close out the first half of the season
before the All Star Break.
