New York Yankees blow lead and lose to the Anaheim Angels


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Thursday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 10-5.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch well.  Chris Carter had two hits and Aaron Judge had three RBI to lead the offense. 

Severino pitched six innings giving up eight hits and six runs with five of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out five and took his third loss of the season.  Chasen Shreve pitched to one batter and retired him, Dellin Betances pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts and Domingo German pitched two innings giving up a hit and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out three. 

Jesse Chavez pitched four innings giving up seven hits and five runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  Yusmeiro Petit pitched two perfect innings with three strikeouts and he won his second game of the season, Cam Bedrosian pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Keynana Middleton pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  David Hernandez pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and an RBI, Aaron Hicks had a hit and Judge had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk.  Matt Holliday drew a walk, Starlin Castro had a hit and an RBI and Gary Sanchez had a hit.  Carter had two hits, Ronald Torreyes had a hit and Carter hit a double and Judge hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 3-7 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Gardner had a stolen base and Castro, Sanchez and German each committed an error. 

Cameron Maybin had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks, Kole Calhoun had two RBI and Albert Pujols had two hits and two RBI.  Yunel Escobar had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Luis Valbuena had a hit and an RBI and Andrelton Simmons had a hit and two RBI.  Eric Young Jr. had a hit and Cliff Pennington had three hits and drew a walk.  Escobar, Simmons and Pennington each hit a double.  Maybin hit a homerun and the Angels were 5-9 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Maybin had a stolen base. 

In the first Maybin hit a solo homerun giving the Angels a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Castro hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  In the second Gardner hit into an RBI ground out to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  Judge hit a three-run homerun in the second and the lead was extended to 5-1.  In the third Pujols hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 5-2 and Escobar hit an RBI single to make it 5-3.  In the sixth Valbuena hit an RBI single to make it 5-4.  In the seventh Calhoun hit a sac fly to tie the game at five.  Pujols hit an RBI single and Simmons hit a two-run double and it was 8-5 Angels.  In the eighth a throwing error by the pitcher allowed a run to score and Calhoun hit a sac fly to extend the Angels lead to 10-5 and that would be the final score.
