The New York Mets defeated the San
Diego Padres on Monday night. The game
took place at Petco Park in San Diego, California and the final score was
5-3. Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and
he pitched well. Asdrubal Cabrera led
the offense with three hits.
deGrom pitched eight innings giving
up five hits and two runs with two walks and eight strikeouts. deGrom won his 12th game of the season. Addison Reed saved his 17th game of
the season pitching an inning and giving up three hits and a run with a
strikeout.
Clayton Richard pitched eight
innings giving up 12 hits and five runs with two walks and eight
strikeouts. Richard lost his 11th
game of the season. Jose Ruis pitched an
inning with a walk and a strikeout.
Michael Conforto had a hit, Cabrera
had three hits and drew a walk and Yoenis Cespedes had a hit, an RBI and drew
two walks. Jay Bruce had two hits and
two RBI, Wilmer Flores had a hit and an RBI and Lucas Duda had two hits. Jose Reyes had a hit, Travis d’Arnaud had a
hit and an RBI and Duda, Conforto and Cabrera each hit a double. Cespedes hit a triple and Flores, Cespedes,
Bruce and d’Arnaud each hit a homerun.
The Mets were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men
on base. Reyes had a stolen base.
Jose Pirela had two hits, Carlos
Asuaje had a hit and an RBI and Wil Myers drew a walk. Hunter Renfroe had two hits and two RBI, Cory
Spangenberg drew a walk and Manuel Margot had two hits. Hector Sanchez had a hit, Pirela and Asuaje
each hit a double. Renfroe hit two
homeruns and the Padres were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left six
men on base. Spangenberg committed an
error.
In the second Flores hit a solo
homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. In
the third Cespedes hit an RBI triple to extend the lead to 2-0. Bruce hit an
RBI single to push the lead to 3-0. In
the fifth Bruce hit an RBI single and the lead was 4-0. In the seventh Renfroe hit a solo homerun to
cut the lead to 4-1. In the eighth d’Arnaud
hit an RBI single to push the lead to 5-1.
In the bottom of the eighth Asuaje hit an RBI double to cut the lead to
5-2. In the ninth Renfroe hit a solo
homerun to cut the lead to 5-3 and that would be the final score.
