New York Yankees earn the two game sweep with win over the Cincinnati Reds


The New York Yankees defeated the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 9-5.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and he pitched great.  Brett Gardner, Clint Frazier, Todd Frazier and Ronald Torreyes each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Severino pitched seven innings giving up three hits and two unearned runs.  He walked two and struck out nine and won his seventh game of the season.  Luis Cessa pitched an inning giving up a hit and three runs with a walk and two strikeouts and David Robertson pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Homer Bailey started for the Reds and he pitched six innings giving up ten hits and seven runs with five of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out none and lost his fifth game of the season.  Tony Cingrani pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a strikeout, Asher Wojciechowski pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out two and Raisel Iglesias pitched to one batter and struck him out. 

Gardner had two hits and drew a walk, C. Fraizer had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Gary Sanchez had a hit and an RBI.  Matt Holliday had a hit and an RBI, Didi Gregorius had a hit and two RBI and Chase Headley had a hit and an RBI.  T. Fraizer had two hits and an RBI, Torreyes had two hits and an RBI and Sanchez hit a double.  Gregorius and T. Frazier each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 4-10 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Gardner had a stolen base and Gregorius committed an error. 

Joey Votto had two hits and drew two walks, Adam Duvall had a hit and three RBI and Eugenio Suarez had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Tucker Barnhart had an RBI, Suarez hit a double and Duvall hit a homerun.  The Reds were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Peraza and Votto each committed an error. 

In the third C. Frazier hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth C. Frazier hit an RBI single to push the lead to 2-0.  In the sixth Headley hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 3-0.  Torreyes hit an RBI ground out and it was 4-0 Yankees.  In the seventh Suarez hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 4-1.  Barnhart hit an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 4-2.  In the bottom of the seventh Sanchez hit an RBI double to make it a 5-2 game.  Holliday hit an RBI single and Gregorius hit a two-run homerun to push the lead to 8-2.  T. Frazier hit a solo homerun and it was 9-2 Yankees.  In the eighth Duvall hit a three-run homerun to cut the lead to 9-5 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees swept the brief two game series and will begin a four game series with the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday night.
