New York Yankees defeated the Cincinnati Reds


The New York Yankees defeated the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-2.  Jordan Montgomery started for the Yankees and he won his seventh game of the season.  He pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and six strikeouts.  Tommy Khanle pitched to one batter and retired him, Dellin Betances pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks and a strikeout and Adam Warren pitched to one batter and struck him out.  Aroldis Chapman pitched a perfect inning and saved his 12th game of the season. 

Luis Castillo pitched five innings giving up seven hits and three runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  He lost his fourth game of the season.   Wandy Peralta pitched pitched an inning giving up a walk, Drew Storen pitched an inning with two strikeouts and Michael Lorenzen pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk, Aaron Judge had a hit and drew a walk and Matt Holliday had a hit.  Didi Gregorius had two hits and two RBI, Chase Headley had a hit and Todd Frazier had a hit and drew a walk.  Austin Romine had a hit and an RBI.  Romine hit a double and Gregorius hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

Billy Hamilton had a hit and an RBI, Adam Duvall had a hit and drew a walk and Devin Mesoraco drew a walk.  Scott Schebler had a hit, Jose Peraza drew a walk and Arismendy Alcantara had an RBI and Schebler and Hamilton each hit a double.  The Reds were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Mesoraco had a passed ball. 

In the second Frazier hit into a triple play and a run scored to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Gregorius hit a sac fly to extend the lead to 2-0.  In the fifth Romine hit an RBI double to push the lead to 3-0.  In the sixth Alcantara hit an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 3-1.  In the eighth Hamiilton hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 3-2 and in the bottom of the eighth Gregorius hit a solo homerun to make it 4-2 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Wednesday afternoon.
