The New York Yankees defeat the
Minnesota Twins on Monday night. The
game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score
was 2-1. Jaime Garcia started for the
Yankees and he pitched great. The
Yankees bullpen made it stand up and Brett Gardner had three hits to lead the
offense.
Garcia pitched 5 2/3 innings giving
up four hits and an unearned run. He
walked none and struck out nine. David
Robertson won his ninth game of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings with two
strikeouts, Dellin Betances pitched 1/3 of an inning with two walks and Aroldis
Chapman saved his 19th game of the season pitching 1 2/3 innings
with two strikeouts.
Ervin Santana lost his eighth game
of the season. He pitched 5 2/3 innings
giving up seven hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts. Trevor Hildenberger pitched an inning giving
up a hit, Taylor Rogers pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout and Tyler Duffey pitched to two
batters and retired them both.
Gardner had three hits, Aaron Judge
had a hit and an RBI and Chase Headley had a hit. Starlin Castro had a hit, Jacoby Ellsbury had
a hit and drew a walk and Todd Frazier had a hit and an RBI. Judge hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-12
with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. Ellsbury and Gardner each had two stolen
bases. Judge committed an error.
In the first Judge hit a solo
homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.
In the fifth Grossman hit an RBI ground out to tie the game at one. In the sixth Frazier hit a sac fly to give
the Yankees a 2-1 lead and that would be the final score.
The two teams will play game two of
three on Tuesday night.
