New York Yankees edge the Minnesota Twins


The New York Yankees defeat the Minnesota Twins on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 2-1.  Jaime Garcia started for the Yankees and he pitched great.  The Yankees bullpen made it stand up and Brett Gardner had three hits to lead the offense. 

Garcia pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up four hits and an unearned run.  He walked none and struck out nine.  David Robertson won his ninth game of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings with two strikeouts, Dellin Betances pitched 1/3 of an inning with two walks and Aroldis Chapman saved his 19th game of the season pitching 1 2/3 innings with two strikeouts. 

Ervin Santana lost his eighth game of the season.  He pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Trevor Hildenberger pitched an inning giving up a hit, Taylor Rogers pitched 2/3 of an inning with a  strikeout and Tyler Duffey pitched to two batters and retired them both. 

Gardner had three hits, Aaron Judge had a hit and an RBI and Chase Headley had a hit.  Starlin Castro had a hit, Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and drew a walk and Todd Frazier had a hit and an RBI.  Judge hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-12 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Ellsbury and Gardner each had two stolen bases.  Judge committed an error. 

In the first Judge hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Grossman hit an RBI ground out to tie the game at one.  In the sixth Frazier hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night.
