The New York Yankees defeat the Minnesota Twins


The New York Yankees defeated the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-2.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he pitched well after a rough start.  Brett Gardner had three hits and Starlin Castro had three hits. 

Sabathia pitched six innings giving up six hits and two runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  Sabathia won his 12th game of the season.  Chad Green pitched an inning giving up a hit and he walked one, David Robertson pitched an inning with three strikeouts and Aroldis Chapman saved his 20th game of the season pitching an inning with a hit and he struck out one. 

Jose Berrios pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs with four walks and four strikeouts.  Berrios lost his eighth game of the season.   Alan Busenitz pitched to two batters and retired them both, Dillon Gee pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and an unearned run and he walked one and Buddy Boshers pitched to one batter and retired him.  Ryan Pressly pitched an innin giving up three hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout, Nik Turley pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and John Curtiss pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout.  Gabriel Moya pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.

Gardner had three hits and two RBI, Aaron Judge had two hits and an RBI and Gary Sanchez had a hit.  Didi Gregorius had a hit and drew a walk, Castro had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and drew a walk.  Todd Frazier drew a walk, Greg Bird drew two walks and Gardner, Gregorius and Ellsbury hit a double.  The Yankees were 3-16 with runners in scoring position and left 14 men on base.  Gardner had a stolen base. 

Brian Dozier had a hit and drew a walk, Joe Mauer had two hits and Jorge Polanco had two hits.  Byron Buxton drew a walk, Chris Gimenez had two hits and Max Kepler had a hit and an RBI.  Gimenez hit a double and Kepler hit a homerun.  The Twins were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Mauer committed an error. 

In the first Escobar hit an RBI ground out to give the Twins a 1-0 lead.  In the second Gardner hit an RBI double to tie the game at one.  In the third Kepler hit a solo homerun to give the Twins back the lead at 2-1.  In the fourth Gardner hit an RBI single to tie the game at two.  Judge hit a sac fly to give the Yankees the 3-2 lead.  In the fifth Bird reached on a fielding error and it was 4-2 Yankees.  In the sixth Castro hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 5-2 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees won their sixth straight series and will look for the three game sweep on Wednesday afternoon.
