New York Yankees beat up on the Miami Marlins


The New York Yankees defeated the Miami Marlins on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 12-1.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and he pitched great.  Gary Sanchez led the offense with three hits and three RBI but Brett Gardner, Aaron Judge and Didi Gregorius each had two hits. 

Severino pitched six innings giving up a hit and no runs with a walk and eight strikeouts.  Severino won his third game of the season.  Adam Warren pitched an inning giving up two hits and a walk with two strikeouts, Chasen Shreve pitched an inning giving up a hit and an unearned run with two walks and a strikeout and Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two. 

Caleb Smith pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up five hits and five runs with five walks and three strikeouts and took his second loss of the season.  Tyler Cloyd pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and six runs with two walks and four strikeouts, Chris O’Grady pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts and Junichi Tazawa pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Gardner had two hits and drew a walk, Judge had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Giancarlo Stanton drew a walk.  Gregorius had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk, Sanchez had three hits, three RBI and drew a walk and Aaron Hicks had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Tyler Austin had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Miguel Andujar had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Ronald Torreyes had a hit.  Hicks hit a double and Austin and Andujar each hit two doubles.  Judge hit a homerun and Gregorius hit two homeruns and the Yankees were 7-18 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Andujar committed an error. 

Miguel Rojas had two hits, Yadiel Rivera drew a walk and Justin Bour had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Brian Anderson drew a walk, Tomas Telis had a hit and Cameron Maybin drew a walk.  Bryan Holaday had a hit and Rojas hit a double.  The Marlins were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

In the first Sanchez hit an RBI single, Austin drew an RBI walk and it was 2-0 Yankees.  In the second Judge hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 3-0.  In the third Hicks hit a two-run double and the lead was extended to 5-0.  In the fourth Gregorius hit a two-run homerun to make it a 7-0 game.  Andujar hit an RBI double in the fifth to stretch the lead to 8-0, Judge hit an RBI single and Sanchez hit a two-run single and it was 11-0 Yankees.  In the seventh Gregorius hit his two-run homerun to make it 12-0 and in the eighth Bour hit an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 12-1 which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play their second and final game of the series on Tuesday night.
