New York Yankees defeat the Toronto Blue Jays in CC Sabathia return


The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-3.  CC Sabathia came off of the DL to make the start and he pitched well although not deep into the game.  The Yankees bullpen was great and everyone in the lineup except Tyler Wade had a hit. 

Sabathia pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up four hits and two unearned runs.  He walked one and struck out one.  Chad Green picked up his first win of the season pitching 1 2/3 innings and striking out two, Delllin Betances pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and David Robertson pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with two walks and two strikeouts.  Aroldis Chapman earned his third save of the season pitching a perfect inning with three strikeouts. 

Aaron Sanchez pitched six innings giving up seven hits and three runs with two walks and two strikeouts.   Tyler Clippard pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and John Axford pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Aaron Judge had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Didi Gregorius had a hit and an RBI.  Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and drew a walk, Gary Sanchez had a hit and Aaron Hicks had a hit and drew a walk.  Neil Walker had a hit, Tyler Wade had an RBI and Ronald Torreyes had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Walker hit a double and Judge hit a homerun and the Yankees were 3-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Hicks was caught stealing, Torreyes committed an error and Sanchez had a passed ball. 

Steve Pearce had a hit, Teoscar Hernandez had a hit and Justin Smoak drew a walk.  Yangervis Solarte drew two walks, Curtis Granderson had a hit and an RBI and Luke Maile had two hits and an RBI.  Devon Travis had a hit and the Blue Jays were 2-14 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

In the second Wade hit an RBI ground out to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  Torreyes hit an RBI single and it was 2-0.  In the third a wild pitch cut the Yankees lead to 2-1.  In the fourth Maile hit an RBI single to tie the game at two.  In the fifth Gregorius hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead.  In the seventh Judge hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 4-2.  In the eight Granderson hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-3 and that was the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of four on Friday night.
