The New York Yankees defeated the Minnesota
Twins on Thursday afternoon. The game
took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was
4-3. Jordan Montgomery started for the
Yankees and he battled, the bullpen pitched well. Giancarlo Stanton had two hits and Gary
Sanchez hit the walk-off homerun to lead the offense.
Montgomery pitched five innings
giving up four hits and two runs with three walks and six strikeouts. Domingo German pitched three innings giving
up four hits and a run with a walk and three strikeouts and Dellin Betances
pitched a perfect inning with three strikeouts.
Kyle Gibson pitched six innings
giving up one hit and no runs with three walks and ten strikeouts. Addison Reed pitched an inning giving up a
hit and a run with a strikeout, Zach Duke pitched an inning giving up a hit and
he struck out one and Fernando Rodney blew his third save and took his second
loss. He didn’t record an out and gave
up two hits and three runs with two of them being earned.
Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a
walk, Aaron Judge drew two walks and Stanton had two hits. Sanchez had a hit and three RBI, Aaron Hicks had
an RBI and Gleyber Torres had a hit.
Stanton hit a double and Sanchez hit a homerun. The Yankees were 2-6 with runners in scoring
position and left four men on base.
Gardner was picked off and Sanchez and Hicks each committed an
error.
Brian Dozier drew a walk, Joe Mauer
had a hit and Miguel Sano had a hit and drew a walk. Eduardo Escobar had a hit and two RBI, Mitch
Garver had a hit and Robbie Grossman had three hits and an RBI. Ehire Adrianza had a hit and drew a walk and
Ryan LaMarre drew a walk. Grossman hit a
double and Escobar and Grossman each hit a homerun. The Twins were 0-4 with runners in scoring
position and left nine men on base.
Dozier and Sano each committed an error and Gibson had a pickoff.
In the third Escobar hit a two-run
homerun to give the Twins a 2-0 lead. In
the sixth Grossman hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 3-0. In the seventh Hicks hit a sac fly to cut the
lead to 3-1 and in the ninth Sanchez hit a walk-off three-run homerun to give
the Yankees a 4-3 victory.
The Yankees swept the four-game series and went
8-2 on the homestand. They have now won
six games in a row and will head to Anaheim to begin a three-game series on
Friday night.
