The New York Yankees defeated the
Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon.
The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final
score was 5-1. Luis Severino started for
the Yankees and he pitched great. Miguel
Andujar led the offense with four hits.
Severino pitched seven innings
giving up three hits and a run with two walks and six strikeouts. He picked up his fourth win of the
season. David Robertson pitched an
inning giving up a hit and striking out one and Aroldis Chapman pitched an
inning walking two and struck out one.
Jaime Garcia pitched 5 1/3 innings
giving up six hits and four runs with three walks and six strikeouts. Garcia lost his first game of the
season. Seung Hwan Oh pitched 2/3 of an
inning giving up a hit, Danny Barnes pitched an inning giving up a hit and an
unearned run and John Axford pitched an inning giving up a hit.
Aaron Hicks had a hit, Aaron Judge
drew a walk and Didi Gregorius had a hit and two RBI. Gary Sanchez had a hit and drew a walk, Tyler
Austin had a hit and drew a walk and Andujar had four hits and an RBI. Austin Romine had a hit and two RBI, Andujar
hit two doubles and Romine and Sanchez each hit a double. Gregorius hit a homerun and the Yankees were
3-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Hicks had a stolen base.
Teoscar Hernandez had two hits and
an RBI, Justin Smoak had a hit and drew a walk and Russell Martin drew a
walk. Kendrys Morales drew a walk, Kevin
Pillar had a hit and Devon Travis drew a walk.
Smoak hit a double and Hernandez hit a homerun. The Blue Jays were 0-9 with runners in
scoring position and left seven men on base.
Pillar had a stolen base and Martin committed an error.
In the first Gregorius hit a solo
homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.
In the second Romine hit a two-run double to push their lead to
3-0. In the sixth Hernandez hit a solo
homerun cutting the lead to 3-1. In the
bottom of the sixth Andujar hit an RBI double to make it a 4-1 game and in the
seventh Gregorius hit a sac fly to make it 5-1 which would be the final
score.
The Yankees took three out of four
in the series and will now begin a four game series with the Minnesota Twins on
Monday night at home.
