The New York Mets were defeated by
the Miami Marlins on Tuesday night. The
game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was
5-1. Zach Wheeler started for the Mets
and he pitched well. The Mets offense
only managed four hits.
Wheeler pitched six innings giving
up seven hits and three runs with only one being earned. He walked none and struck out nine and lost
his fourth game of the season. Robert
Gsellman pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout, AJ
Ramos pitched an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and a
strikeout and Jacob Rhame pitched a perfect inning.
Caleb Smith won his third game of
the season pitching 6 2/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with two walks
and eight strikeouts. Drew Steckenrider
pitched to one batter and retired him, Kyle Barraclough pitched an inning
giving up a hit and a walk and Brad Ziegler pitched a perfect inning.
Brandon Nimmo drew a walk, Wilmer
Flores drew a walk and Jose Bautista had a hit.
Jose Reyes had a hit and drew a walk, Tomas Nido had an RBI and Wheeler
had a hit. Gonzalez had a hit, Bautista
and Gonzalez each hit a double. The Mets
were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. Reyes committed two errors.
J.T. Realmuto had three hits and
two RBI, Justin Bour had a hit and drew a walk and Starlin Castro had a
hit. Brian Anderson had a hit and drew a
walk, Derek Dietrich had two hits and two RBI and Miguel Rojas had a hit and an
RBI. Anderson hit a double, Dietrich hit
a homerun and the Marlins were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left
seven men on base.
In the second Rojas hit an RBI
single to give the Marlins a 1-0 lead. Realmuto
hit a two-run single to push the lead to 3-0.
In the second Nido hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 3-1. In the eighth Dietrich hit a two-run homerun
to extend the lead to 5-1 and that was the final score.
The series is even at one with the
rubber game being on Wednesday night.
